Pros and Cons
The downsides outweigh the upsides.
PROS: The campground is beautifully laid out and well-maintained. The restroom facilities were also very clean and well-maintained. The swimming beach and play areas for children are varied and appealing.
DRAWBACKS: The prices for some of the children’s play areas,... as well as for water sports (SUP, kayaking, pedal boats, etc.), and the prices for the restaurant and Wi-Fi are truly outrageously high. The so-called dog park is a very, very small area, and the small pond next to it is just a filthy hole.

Pretty nice
Everything is handled very smoothly (booking, check-in and check-out, extending your stay, etc.). The restrooms were always clean, plentiful, and easily accessible.
It’s obvious that prices at campgrounds are higher than at the supermarket outside, but we found the prices in the shop to be very excessive....
The prices in the “restaurant” (which is more like a self-service snack bar) are also completely out of line for what you get. The food tasted good, but there’s no question of quality. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also rather uncomfortable and incredibly chaotic, which is probably due to the self-service concept.
All in all, we had a wonderful time, but we kept having to swallow hard at the prices.

Not for us.
Opinions are mixed. The cell service is absolutely terrible. Streaming via a hotspot is practically impossible. This is a problem for parents who need to stay connected to work even while on vacation. Wi-Fi provided by the campground operator—like everything else, by the way—is way too expensive. Even... Switzerland is usually cheaper in this regard.
Facilities for children are exemplary. But they usually come with additional costs. For example, €8 to launch your own boat at Seelenplatte! Outrageous!
Next time, we’re going abroad again.

Great spot
We really liked the great private bathroom cabins. What we didn’t like so much was the poor internet connection (12 MB download speed)—we had to fall back on our alternative because watching TV was impossible (which, with all the streaming services available these days, is no longer acceptable). We also... didn’t like that if you arrive after 8:00 p.m., there’s no way to book internet online.
But aside from those minor issues, it’s a great place with lots of activities for kids.

Too loud, everything's too cramped—hearing the neighbor breathe is really too much.
I went there on a recommendation and was extremely disappointed
It gives the impression that everything is geared toward mass processing and maximum profit. Every available millimeter is put to use. You’re crammed in like sardines. The relaxation factor is zero because of the crowds.
At other places of a similar size, you don’t really notice the crowds as much.

QR Code Access Is Cumbersome
A nice, pleasant place with a few minor drawbacks
We had a "Comfort" site in Section 14. The one we were assigned was really perfect for us. It was spacious, had shade in the afternoon, was a short walk to the washhouse, close to the walking path for the dogs, and very easy to access, since we have a fairly large trailer setup.

Safety Deficiencies
Overall, the campground was very crowded during our stay and at times even overcrowded. We were generally fine with that.

The restroom facilities varied greatly: If you went at the right time, they were clean and tidy. However, you could also get unlucky and find them in a very neglected state. To be... fair, we wouldn’t blame the cleaning staff for this, as they were regularly on site and did their best. Rather, it seems difficult to keep the restroom areas in good condition at all times given the large number of guests.

One major point of criticism for us, however, was the situation with e-bikes and e-scooters. Some of them were zipping around the campground at completely inappropriate speeds. With a two-year-old child, it was nearly impossible to move around the campground freely and relax, as we constantly had to worry that the child would be hit. Especially at a family-friendly campground, there is an urgent need to enforce walking speed limits and relevant rules—and to actually monitor compliance with them.

Unfortunately, our experience with the staff was not particularly positive either. When we brought up the issue with the e-bikes and e-scooters, we were treated very rudely. In our opinion, objective feedback regarding a safety issue—especially when small children are involved—should be handled differently.

We were also disappointed by the value for money on site. We found the prices at the restaurant to be significantly inflated, especially given the quality and type of food offered. For food that, for the most part, seemed to us like simple frozen or convenience products, the prices charged were incomprehensible to us.

The lake itself didn’t exactly invite us to go swimming either. During our stay, there was an unpleasant musty odor and a very heavy growth of algae.

Overall, the campground certainly has potential, but for us, the negative aspects outweighed the positives. In our opinion, there is a clear need for improvement, particularly regarding traffic safety on the grounds and how the staff handles feedback from guests.

Unfortunately, it wasn't as nice as I expected
Good evening.
Thanks to the excellent marketing on the website, we had high expectations for the campground at Hüttensee.
What we liked was:
1. The process from check-in to arriving at our campsite
2. The new restroom containers at our campsites
3. That our campsite met our expectations for peace... and quiet.

What we didn’t like, on the other hand:
1. In general, the sites are very cramped, and it feels like you’re practically stepping on your neighbor’s toes.
2. The new restroom containers are great—but only when they’re not occupied. It just feels like there aren’t enough of them, especially during school breaks.
3. There wasn’t enough toilet paper to last until the next cleaning.
4. There weren’t enough places to do laundry, which is important and practical when traveling with kids. Everything was always occupied, and we had to wait forever near the house because we couldn’t use them.
5. The water in the pond for the little pedal boats could probably use a thorough cleaning.
6. The water in the swimming lake actually put us off. Sure, the temperature and use of the lake probably hinder algae growth. But “beautiful” is really something else. We were unfortunately very disappointed—we’d really been looking forward to that.
7. But the food service at the lake really took the cake. The prices for soft-serve ice cream with a sprinkle of topping are outrageous. Downright cheeky and very close to a rip-off. The same goes for the prices of the meals. It was tasty, sure. But around 22 euros for a fried schnitzel with fries and sauce is just not reasonable.
8. Finally, the mini-market in the tent. I’d also describe the prices as questionable, but I found the lackluster service at the register much worse. My goodness, if you don’t feel like doing it, I think you’d be better off not doing it at all.

All in all, it’s a shame. We’d been really looking forward to it, but we ended up mostly disappointed.

A nice spot with a lack of restroom facilities
There weren't enough showers and washing facilities in our area, and they weren't cleaned often enough. Sometimes we had to wait half an hour with the kids in front of the shower.
The prices for groceries and other items in the store are way overpriced. It was almost worth driving to Winsen every morning.

Getting There / Great for Families

It was pretty crowded; there were a lot of dogs.
A beautiful spot in the Lüneburg Heath
Easy to get to via the A7. The campground is beautifully situated on the Lüneburg Heath by the lake. Lots of activities for families. We were just passing through for one night, but we enjoyed the lovely hiking trail around the lake. We highly recommend this campground.

Hassle-free check-in and check-out
Beautiful Campground
A very nice campground. The restroom facilities were modern and clean. The campsites were plenty big. We were there with friends. A friend stayed overnight in a tent on our site. The only thing I didn’t like was that she had to pay not just for an additional adult, but the full price as if she were staying... on her own site in the tent area. But she didn’t take up any space—she was with us.

Perhaps they could put up signs at the beginning of the roads—just like they did at the entrance to the campground—for the 3,000 campsites, so people know which sites are located there.

Otherwise, everything was great. I’d camp there again. 🙂

There's plenty to do for families with children

A beautiful and clean campground
The campground is beautifully landscaped and clean. There are plenty of activities for all ages: pedal boats for the little ones, pedal boats for everyone on the lake, a bouncy castle, table tennis, and go-karts for the kids. We were there with our two small dogs, though. There is a dog park where dogs... can run freely, with a small pond nearby, but it turned out to be a muddy little ditch, so we decided not to let our dogs in it after all. And dogs aren’t allowed in the swimming lake. We were at the campground last week when it was over 30 degrees, so cooling off was out of the question—after all, who would leave their dog in or by the camper to enjoy a nice day at the lake? The bistro offers some simple but tasty meals. At the mini-market, you can get fresh rolls and plenty of other items you might have forgotten to bring. Unfortunately, our spot was in the second row next to the long-term campers, who felt the need to blast their pop music at us all day long. For us as dog owners, the campground unfortunately wasn’t the right fit. It’s perfect for families with children, though.

Camping with the Family
We'd love to come back next year.
The grounds are well-maintained, the lake is perfect for stand-up paddleboarding, and our daughter loves the trampoline area, the children's pedal boats, and the dance arch. We would have liked the restrooms to be a bit cleaner.
