"Far from the expected KNAUS standard - Unfortunately, the campsite felt like an abandoned building site. I had pitch 25 - right on the banks of the Lahn, which would have been nice in itself. The large tree on the pitch also provided perfect shade. So much for the good... What I found disastrous was the pitch itself, but also large parts of the campsite. My pitch was partly laid out with crooked concrete slabs, with tripping hazards and edges. In addition, the slabs were completely confused, it was probably a spontaneously cleared permanent pitch where nothing else had been done. The approximately 5 meters of "green" up to the beautiful Lahn had probably been mowed for the first time this year (mid-May), which was therefore more like a lousy stubble field than a meadow/lawn due to the natural vegetation. In some places, there was rubble lying around next to the concrete slabs and there were thick wheel tracks from a wheel loader or similar large construction equipment. Everything was very unkempt. Electricity came from an underground cable, which simply came out of the ground in the middle of the neighboring plot (very close together) and was wrapped in a plastic bag. As there was only one "power connection", which was also in the middle of the driving area of the neighboring plot, the said neighboring plot needed a Y-plug for power distribution. Not only not nice, but also highly dangerous if the cable or the (my) plug is broken or even exposed to rain. But while we're on the subject of dangerous, here's another - even more dangerous - point. At the "Mobilehome" construction site, there is a large manhole in the ground that is only covered with a light plastic pallet. Kanaus people, that's not on! Some of the mobile homes were rented out and the shaft was not secured with a construction fence. And all this during Whitsun, when lots of children are out and about. DANGER TO LIFE !!! The wash house was very old, there was only one sink in the area for washing dishes and that with a full campsite. Deductions for this too, as well as for the condition of the wash house, which without renovation/refurbishment certainly dates from the late 70s or early 80s. Positive: There was enough water from the free showers and the open toilets (half of them were permanently locked, at least for the men) were clean. The staff were VERY FRIENDLY and NICE throughout. Conclusion: This place is not worth almost 100Euro for my three nights (1 person) and in no way fulfills what you want and expect from a KNAUS place and ultimately also paid for. I expect more from KNAUS than an ancient campsite with many abandoned permanent camping pitches, unkempt lawns and green growth, excavator tracks on the pitches, combined with wild, haphazard construction sites and sometimes chaotically removed concrete slabs where nothing is subsequently leveled or sown. It's a shame, but I'm looking forward to Knaus' statement and am writing this here with my e-mail address. Perhaps Knaus will show that there is a better way, as this site is supposedly being run by Knaus for the third season. At least that's what some of my fellow campers say.
