It would be nice if they would ask for further requests when clearing up, which would also benefit the amount consumed. We waited over 1/4 hour after our meal to order a coffee... and dessert. We are not on the run, but with a little more attention from the service staff there would have been more in it and the "tip" would also have been more generous.
