Back at the Grubhof after 3 years
When it comes to the booking portal, Falkensteiner
should take a look at the competition to see how easy it is.
Click on the site map, enter the length of stay,
spots marked in red are taken, green means available!!!
Then, during our stay, there were 6 RVs from the Czech Republic.
The group spent 2.5... hours maneuvering around the site.
Once they were finally parked, there was a lot of commotion in our area. Loud shouting, children playing soccer and running wild across the green areas, etc.
My neighbor immediately complained to the front desk and announced that we would be leaving right away.
According to them, as long-time campers—including at the Grubhof—we should show some understanding toward people of other nationalities. As the saying goes, different countries,
different customs.
In response, I and several other campers
complained that the campground rules apply to everyone.
The situation was eventually resolved.
The group was moved to an empty spot on the tent field
.
This resolved the issue for everyone, and we were able to enjoy the rest of our stay at the campground.

A Dream Vacation
We were really impressed with the campground. Our site was right on the river. The view of the water and the mountains is very soothing. Of course, we were also lucky with the weather. We’d be happy to recommend this campground and will definitely come back again.

Everything. This was our fourth time there, and we’ll definitely be back. The spacious sites with lawns and views are a dream. The washhouses, with their always-clean bathrooms, are excellent. Towels are dried on radiators in a large hallway. Everything is within biking distance. We would have loved to stay there.

Grubhof - Camping Is Addictive
One of the best places we've ever been. Everything is just right. The view of the mountains is outstanding. It's very quiet, and this year the cows are in the meadow next door. Even doing the dishes with a view of the mountains becomes an experience.

What I really liked were the size of the campsites. The location, the friendliness, and the cleanliness.

Since I was there with a dog, I would have liked to see a dog run. I've seen that at many other campgrounds. Maybe they'll add one someday. There's plenty of space.
You can stop by there often!
I'd love to go back there! I'd like to see a dog run there, though.

Of course, this beautiful and wonderful campground with its spacious sites. It’s not too crowded, and you have an unobstructed view of the lovely meadow. Plus, the restrooms are in very good condition.

There was a bit of confusion at the front desk this time, but in the end, everything worked out just fine. Unfortunately, the shower card wasn't working reliably, but it was replaced without any issues. Dog owners might need to be reminded again that leashes are required on the grounds. We were there with our own dog, which is why it caught our attention.
Best Vacation
We visited the Grubhof for the first time last year, and it was the best vacation we’ve ever had—it left nothing to be desired. This time around, it was wonderful again. It’s a great place for biking, hiking, and strolling through the charming little towns nearby. Excellent shopping options. It’s simply a dreamy place to relax—and not just for us dog owners. We’d love to come back.

Sure. I would word the review **objectively but clearly**: no personal attacks, just a description of the specific events. That way, it comes across as credible and is helpful to other guests.

Objective, Clear Campground Review

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with our stay.

We had made... a binding reservation for the campground in advance, paid the required deposit, and received a booking confirmation via email. Upon our arrival, however, there was supposedly no reservation on file and no campsite reserved for us.

Instead, we were initially assigned a spot right next to the restroom building. Since we didn’t feel comfortable there at all, we eventually moved to the tent area. However, we found the restroom facilities there to be very basic and spartan.

We found the treatment at the front desk particularly unpleasant. Instead of internally clarifying the discrepancy regarding our verifiably confirmed reservation, we were asked repeatedly and very insistently whether and when we had actually made the deposit. We were able to present the relevant email correspondence and proof of payment, so the payment was clearly verifiable.

For us, a confirmed reservation means that a corresponding campsite is actually available upon arrival. If, despite a booking confirmation and a deposit having been paid, no suitable site is available and the guest is then required to prove payment, this is, in our view, not a satisfactory way to handle a reservation.

Overall, we unfortunately did not feel welcome or well taken care of at this campground. We hope that bookings will be managed reliably in the future and that, in the event of reservation issues, guests will be treated in a more customer-oriented and respectful manner.

Camping Grubhof — There's Still a Lot to Do for Falkensteiner
For space reasons, I’ll just list the criticisms here; the positive aspects are already covered under “Advantages”:

The 180 m² site size is just for show—the actual usable area (gravel surface) is about 100 m², and with two larger vehicles parked side by side in the required orientation, things can... quickly get cramped.

The Wi-Fi is effectively unusable because it’s constantly overloaded (so bring a mobile router).

The restroom facilities are cleaned by an outside contractor—but they aren’t very good at cleaning the corners. It also happens that toilets still show signs of use even right after they’ve been cleaned. Soap dispensers sometimes stay empty for days, and no one notices.

But now to the biggest downside—the lack of price transparency—and I’d like to explain this in more detail:

We booked our vacation through the website—20 days, 2 people, quiet zone—€1,040, or €52 per day—which was also listed as such in the booking confirmation. What you’ll search for in vain on the website is a price list that includes all the costs you can expect. These include electricity (€0.90 per kWh—5 kWh per day are included), the local tax of €3.45 per person per night, and fees for using the sauna, etc., etc.
If you want to buy bread rolls at the shop in the morning—there are no prices listed for the baked goods—what’s that all about?
When it came time to pay on the day of departure, the confirmed total of €1,040 suddenly jumped to €1,178 just because of the unmentioned local tax—that’s nearly €59 per day.

With 270 sites at the campground, there’s actually a constant coming and going of RVs and trailers. Even in the quiet zone, overnight guests are sometimes accommodated for just one night—why in the quiet zone when there are plenty of open spots in other parts of the campground?!

It’s rather doubtful whether we’ll spend our vacation at the Grubhof again—Falkensteiner still has a lot of work to do.

Grubhof Is Different Now
They no longer take into account any site requests made during the booking process at all. We had listed 6 preferred sites, and none of them were considered. Only after several attempts—and by compromising on spending one night on a site right in front of the restroom entrance(!)—did we get one of the... sites we wanted. It was strange that 1–2 days after our arrival, all of our preferred spots were available and remained so. Things used to be more customer-oriented and better organized. This isn’t the way to build a customer base, and unfortunately, you’ll lose regular customers faster than you think. We weren’t the only ones who had this experience. Some of the vacationers we spoke with are looking elsewhere for future stays. I myself was at the front desk only twice during our stay (upon arrival and departure). And each time, I heard similar complaints from vacationers.

The weather during our stay was truly fantastic! Plenty of sun and hardly any rain. But the campground remained empty. Why is that? We’ve never experienced anything like this before. Where has the personal touch with customers gone? Aside from the really nice ladies at the front desk, it’s practically nonexistent. A newsletter once a week or once a month is simply not enough.

The large meadows are apparently leased to a local farmer as pasture for cattle. That’s quite nice during the day and gives the campground more character, but at night… some of the cows stand right in front of the RVs, and the loud jingling of their bells is so loud that it’s impossible to sleep.

Last but not least, we—like many other vacationers—also find the prices exorbitant! Upon arrival, we were assured that nothing had changed—so what justifies the price increase? Energy costs: yes—but I doubt that justifies such a huge price jump.
I’m more inclined to believe that the corporation behind it is using the increase to compensate for other projects that aren’t doing well.

We had to leave early, but even we’re wondering whether we’ll choose the Grubhof next time.

Conventional chemical toilet disposal is available only in the entrance area (next to the trash disposal area and the graywater disposal area). Otherwise, only paid vending machines are available in the restroom area.
A Great Week at Grubhof
We received a very warm welcome upon arrival; the staff in the technical department were helpful; and everyone in the restaurant and the mini-shop was extremely friendly and accommodating (delicious rolls in the morning without needing to order in advance, and always great tips on how to spend our vacation)....
A wellness area with saunas and massages is also available, but we didn’t use it, so we can’t rate it. The restroom facilities we used consisted exclusively of XXL family restrooms (very large, clean, and well-maintained).

A Vacation at the Grubhof in Early Fall
We really enjoyed our stay at the Grubhof. Even the arrival area, with its parking space for our RV and trailer, was exceptionally spacious. Check-in was straightforward, and the staff at the front desk were friendly. The parking space for the camper van and the trailer is spacious. The restrooms were... always in top condition.
The walk to the Saalach River never failed to impress us. The restaurant and the small convenience store are also worth recommending.

Wifi needs to be improved.
On the last 2 days we noticed that nearly all new incoming campers were sent to our row with one to two free pitches although there were lots of rows where only 1-2 campers were situated.
The value for money was not acceptable for us. We spent times on other comparable campings with same conditions which were cheaper.
Everything else was very good.

The Grubhof is a truly great spot in a prime location. Whether you’re into hiking or biking, there are plenty of places to explore and ways to relax here. The restroom facilities are great, though there’s only one disposal station for chemical toilets at the entrance. Although there’s a CamperClean station... at every restroom building, those who don’t want to use it may have to walk quite a distance to find a disposal point. The Wi-Fi isn’t the best either, but that’s really just nitpicking. The food and drinks are highly recommended across the board. A truly wonderful stay that you’ll definitely want to repeat.

The seating was great as always, even though we didn't get the seats we'd reserved.

We come every year, but this was our last time. We called to ask if there was a dog-friendly spot available, and we were assured there was. When we arrived, they claimed everything was booked, and we had to go to the tent field. We had to pay in advance, which really surprised us, but we were assured that if we left early, we’d get a refund for the overpayment. Since we weren’t satisfied with the tent field, we wanted to leave the next day, but were only reimbursed for 2 of the 4 days we’d booked; the dog fee and visitor’s tax weren’t refunded at all. When I realized this, I went to the front desk and asked what was going on. I emphasized that we had been assured we’d get our money back and that I’d be happy to let my lawyer handle it—we discussed it for about half an hour in the back room. Then I received a smooth refund of the overpayment, including the dog fee and tourist tax. This is now the second time in a row that we’ve had problems. The first time, they claimed no deposit had been received—even though we showed them proof in writing—so we had to pay the full amount, and after multiple inquiries (in writing), we finally got our money back after six weeks. Now we’ve had enough of Camping Grubhof.

Camping Perfected
Right from the friendly check-in, we realised we had found camping paradise. The generous, level pitches and beautiful surroundings confirmed our first impressions. But then we went to the Sanitaries… My word, they are well beyond a 5/5 rating. Easily the best we have ever come across; the family shower... rooms are perfection and the towel drying area is a brilliant touch. And then the cherry on top was a visit to the cosy restaurant. We will be back!

We received a very warm welcome when we “checked in.” The groundskeeper personally showed us around. The campsites are very spacious and surrounded by beautiful nature. The restroom facilities are clean and very spacious.
