Newcomers in the Award 2022

A total of 7 campsites from Austria and Germany are new in the ranking of the Award 2022 compared to the previous year.

The highest ranked newcomer of overall ranking and best newcomer in Austria is Camping Sonnenland in Lutzmannsburg. Even though this campground did not make it into the top 110 last year, it ranks 13th place in this year's award thanks to extensive improvements in 2021 and numerous guest reviews. Camping Sonnenland also receives the special honour in the category "best rating for friendliness".

The Hafencamp Senftenberger See did achieve a similarly good result in 71st place. The popular campsite in Brandenburg is considered the best newcomer in Germany and can also be proud of being rated "best suited for campers with tents".

The lower-ranking campingsites Kur-Camping Kreuzhof, Seepark Ternsche, Campingpark Erfurt, Alpenferienpark Reisach and Camping Maltschacher Seewirt have reason to rejoice and receive the camping.info Award for the first time.

The best climbers of the ranking

The best climber in the camping.info Award 2022 is 50plus Camping Park Fisching. The campsite in Styria is particularly suitable for seniors and climbed from 80th to 35th place in 2022, improving by a whopping 45 positions.

Also in the fast lane in this year's award are Camping Neubauer in Carinthia (42nd place) and Campingpark Gut Ruhleben in Schleswig-Holstein (57th place), both of which were able to improve by 36 positions compared to the previous year. Ostseecamping Familie Heide also did very well and is now listed 35 ranks higher. They even made it into the top 10 of 2022 with eighth place in the overall ranking.

Special honours for individual categories

On camping.info, campers also can evaluate individual categories such as for exampkre sanitary facilities, pitches and infrastructure. Moreover, it is possible to rate the suitability for camping with dogs, for seniors or for camping with children.

The camping.info Award is one of the most ambitioned awards in the camping industry and is being presented for the 11th time this year. With 40 million page views (2021), our camping platform is by far the most visited camping website in German-speaking countries. camping.info lists over 23.,000 campsites from 44 European countries and is also very popular in other countries thanks to its 27 language versions. The great success of the award is primarily based on its transparency: There is no “black box”, all the underlying evaluations and the formula for creating the ranking and all of its factors are publicly available. As in previous years, not only the average ratings of the camping guests form the basis, but there is a weighting according to the topicality of the ratings and their number.

Ratings are weighted based on how current they are, how many there are as well as how trustworthy the reviewer is: The more reviews a camper submits on camping.info, the frequency with which other users find their reviews useful, the more complete their personal profile, the number of pictures uploaded, etc., the higher the reviewer’s trustworthiness rating on camping.info will be. This level of trustworthiness is displayed beside each rating and is indicated with smiley faces (1–5).
