"No recommendation - ​We booked a barrel stay at this campground in Haren for Friday. The concept itself is actually a nice idea, but the way it was carried out on site was, unfortunately, an absolute disappointment. The entire campground gives off a very unkempt and neglected overall impression. ​The campground: ​Lack of landscaping: You can hardly call this a “lawn”—it looks more like an overgrown meadow. The trees, shrubs, and lawn edges are in desperate need of a proper trim. ​Bleak appearance: Many long-term camper sites look completely abandoned, and there were even broken gazebos lying around on some vacant sites. The small lake is dark brown and absolutely unattractive to look at. ​Noise pollution: The nearby expressway is constantly audible; there’s no such thing as idyllic tranquility here. ​The sleeping barrel: The barrel itself also desperately needs some TLC and, above all, a thorough cleaning: ​Pests & Dirt: The entrance area was full of spiders, cobwebs, and spider eggs, which we had to remove ourselves first. Aside from the mattresses (each about 20 cm from the wall), everything was dirty and dusty. ​Damaged Furnishings: In front of the bed stood a plastic stool that was completely broken through in the middle. The curtain was hanging crookedly, the fly screen was provisionally taped in place with masking tape, and the flower box in front of the window was overrun with weeds rather than ornamental plants. ​The Bathroom Facilities: Unfortunately, the toilet barrels in front of the room fit right into the overall picture. On one of the bathroom doors, the locking mechanism only worked when locked from the inside. This meant that the door stood wide open for the rest of the day and all night long whenever no one was using the bathroom. ​Conclusion: Spending the night in a barrel is certainly a great experience in itself, but at this campsite, it’s absolutely not recommended. There’s a complete lack of maintenance and attention to detail here. What a shame!

"nice place - Contrary to some comments we’ve seen, we were very impressed with the campground. The campground attendant was very friendly and really went out of his way to assign us a nice spot that we could use with our DCC discount. The campsite was very spacious, and the spot right next to it remained unoccupied the entire time. The restroom facilities weren’t brand-new, but they were always very clean. The campground has plenty of green space, including trees that provide shade— The proximity to the city center was also great, and there are some very nice bike routes to explore. Overall, we felt very comfortable there.

"A Solid Campground - We didn't like that the Schützenfest was taking place that first weekend and the festivities went on until 3 a.m.—we couldn't sleep because of the loud bass. The festivities were right next door. It would have been really nice if the campground had given us a heads-up, because if we'd only been there for the weekend, that would have been the worst part. We couldn’t get any rest during the day, and certainly not at night. We found this pretty annoying. Make sure to get a card for the gate right away. After the first day, when we were standing in front of a locked gate and no one was there to open it, we finally got one. As we were told at check-in, there isn’t always someone there. Electricity for 1€ per kWh is a real steal—back home we paid a flat rate of 4€, and sometimes it was included because of our ACSI card. Otherwise, it’s a small, generally quiet campground with a beautiful, idyllic lake. The restrooms are a bit dated but were always clean. Check-in and check-out went smoothly. The grounds are natural and well-maintained. The playground at the entrance is also a bit dated but certainly adequate.

"Keep it up—it's worth it - Very friendly staff, clean and tidy site with top-notch restrooms, cool dog Iwan, a laid-back groundskeeper despite storm damage and staff shortages, an idyllic, quiet yet central location in Haren. Large parking spaces—some spots are only for experienced drivers... grin.... We booked again right away and can highly recommend everything. Thanks, it was great

"Super stay!!! - We had a really nice long and quiet weekend! The sanitary facilities were well maintained at all times. The water pressure in the showers could be higher. The playground and the leisure activities such as table tennis and volleyball are great for the children. The pitches are large and beautifully situated. There are hedges and trees everywhere and offer a bit of shade, especially in warm weather. The site is quiet and very relaxed. We really enjoyed it as a family with two children and would come again. The bread roll service was uncomplicated and the rolls were super tasty!

"Gladly again - The place is small, but quiet and in beautiful surroundings.the wash houses are clean.the staff is nice and helpful. Friendly permanent campers. There is everything you need on the site. No superfluous frills that only increase the price. It is absolutely reasonable. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back.
