"Poor conditions when we visited in summer 2025 - We had a very rough experience at this campsite. The gentleman at the front desk spoke to us quite abruptly, and when we visited the bathrooms on this day, there was no toilet paper. There was also loud music we could hear until 2AM, leading to a very difficult time for us sleeping. We unfortunately would not choose to stay here again.

"Be sure to read the GTC - First of all, I would like to point out that it is essential to read the terms and conditions carefully before making an advance payment booking. With this review, I would like to share my subjective experience in connection with booking and later canceling a trip to this campsite. What surprised me personally: The T&Cs were only sent together with the specific booking offer. According to these terms and conditions, refunds will only be made if the cancellation was caused by the campsite!!! This was not immediately apparent to me and, in my opinion, would have been important information in advance. We had to cancel our booking several months in advance. My personal perception of the subsequent contact with the operator was unfortunately very negative - I found the tone to be unfriendly and not very solution-oriented. Even when we asked, services that had already been paid for (such as electricity and shower tokens) were not refunded, even though these had not even been used at the time of cancellation. I cannot and do not want to judge whether this procedure is legally correct. I would just like to describe my personal experience, in which I did not feel well treated as a customer. As we didn't arrive in the end, I can't rate the campsite itself.

"Overnight stay 1 night - Unfortunately, I can't say much positive about the forest campsite. We were there for 1 night on the free meadow. We were able to book at very short notice, which was the advantage, but my email was not read properly because we wanted to stay longer than 12:00 noon the next day. We had to pack up relatively quickly. The SANITARY FACILITIES are very bad, the entrance to the washroom is quite a challenge. All cobwebs, very unkempt...you don't really want to go in there. No toilet paper, just a little hand soap, that's it. You don't really want to go in there!!!! Then no restaurant, we had the Flodder family on the meadow. Noisy, children howling loudly (because they were petulant) soccer was played. well, it is not and was not relaxing. For us a no go campsite, we have already experienced soooo wonderfully run campsites. You don't need something like this. It's a shame that the owners don't care and just want to make money.

"ATTENTION: No refunds for services not rendered in the event of cancellation - On May 31, we wanted to spend one night at the campsite as day campers. We were unable to make the trip at short notice and informed the campsite by phone on the day of arrival. To make the reservation binding, the offer amount must be transferred in advance. In our case, in addition to 4 people and 2 tents, this also included 10 (!) kWh ("empirically" assumed consumption) and 4 shower tokens. On June 2, we sent a friendly email asking for a refund for the unused shower tokens and the unused electricity. We were informed that, as we were not responsible for not starting the trip, we would not be refunded. We took it for granted that we would bear the costs for the campsite if we canceled at short notice. It also seemed obvious to us that we would be reimbursed for electricity and showers, as the provider had not incurred any costs as a result. A telephone clarification on June 7th was unfriendly blocked, we had to write an email to the administration. In response to our letter, we were granted a refund of the shower tokens (minus a EUR 1 donation!). The electricity was a flat rate and would not be refunded. As there was no mention of a flat rate for electricity anywhere (neither on the website nor in the offer), we disagreed with this assessment. The answer to this confirms Wolfgang S.'s assessment of a silent management that obviously has a special understanding of customer orientation. We should have looked at the negative reviews here earlier, because this approach is obviously not an isolated case! Here, a high electricity consumption (10 kWh with 4 people in a tent on one day must first be managed) is assumed, retroactively declared as a flat rate and then referred to as having accepted this with the payment (as if you had had the choice if you wanted to make a binding reservation).

"View first before transfer - Attention: We would like to advise all those who, like us, just want to relax in a nice atmosphere to look FIRST, then pay. We got the reservation with the sentence, we can actually still offer you a place, only with advance payment. Friends who wanted to surprise us there actually found 1 tent on the tourist pitch. The great restaurant, which was advertised so effusively on 11.08.23, was empty and closed. Pictures (taken by friends) of the sanitary facilities suggest why nobody was camping there. The highlight, however, was that we were unable to arrive due to an accident and informed the campsite directly. On 3rd inquiry came, not our fault, no refund or credit note. The subsequent correspondence was also sarcastic and silent, even if the answer was only given on repeated request. We have never experienced such behavior in 12 years of camping. Everywhere there would at least have been a credit note for the unused but paid vacation period. So if you are interested in friendly, relaxed days, you should definitely not stay here, but choose one of the many campsites in the immediate vicinity. Unfortunately, we have not taken into account the numerous bad reviews, but hope to spare other campers the disappointment of this site.

"Inadequate hygienic conditions - The hygienic conditions in wash house 2 were subterranean. No soap dispenser, no toilet paper, miserable cleanliness. The fresh water outlet directly 50cm next to the faeces disposal is absolutely disgusting. If we had read all the reviews beforehand, we would definitely not have stopped here. In response to a complaint from the operator, we were insulted on Google as conspicuously unhygienic and as moochers because we wanted the fee for the second day back, as we had paid for two days in advance. We would not have spent a second night here under these hygienic conditions. As you could see, we had to pay for the two days in advance. > Best joke ever! If the specialist who saw us as conspicuously unhygienic had looked at the sanitary facilities with the same sharp eye, there would certainly have been no reason for a complaint. I don't understand why families with children go on vacation here. Irresponsible!!! I don't understand why some people here rate the campsite with 5 stars. .... Maybe it used to be different.

Profil

Der Campingplatz der Waldcamping "Speetenkath" GmbH liegt in Xanten am Niederrhein in Nordrhein-Westfalen und hat ganzjährig geöffnet. Das Familienunternehmen wird nun schon seit 50 Jahren von der Familie von Wolff-Metternich, seit kurzem in der zweiten Generation, geführt. Der Campingplatz liegt …sehr ruhig, aber nur etwa 15 Fahrradminuten vom Stadtzentrum von Xanten entfernt. Er ist zwar von einem wunderschönen alten Waldbestand umgeben, aber dennoch sehr hell und klar. In einem kleinen See kann man sich wunderbar an heißen Tagen abkühlen. Eine große Wiese wird für Wohnmobile und Zelttouristen direkt an dem See vorgehalten. Ein großer Kinderspielplatz mit Klettergerüsten etc. verschafft den kleinsten Spaß und Abwechslung. Der Platz ist weitestgehend naturbelassen. Grüne Sträucher, Hecken und Bäume grenzen Parzellen von Dauercampern ab. Touristen können auch gerne auf freien Parzellen zwischen Dauercampern ihr Lager aufschlagen. Hier sind dann zu Strom- auch Wasser- und Abwasseranschlüsse vorhanden. Es gibt zwei Sanitärhäuser. Eines davon wurde gerade erst neu in Betrieb genommen, ist also auf dem allerneusten Standard, inklusive Behindertendusche und WC. Es gibt eine Gaststätte, die ganzjährig geöffnet hat. In der Campingsaison werden dort frische Frühstücksbrötchen, Mittagessen und abends warme Gerichte angeboten. Die Umgebung ist sehr reizvoll und für einen naturnahen Urlaub für Familien und Singles aller Genrationen bestens geeignet. Die legendäre Römerstadt Xanten, der Rhein, große Reiterhöfe und die nahe Lage an der holländischen Grenze bieten unzählige Möglichkeiten von Freizeitaktivitäten.
