The trash cans are overflowing, and what we found particularly unpleasant was the lack of access controls. Anyone can walk onto the grounds at any time. We also think the price is way too high for what the place offers. They could take a cue from southern Germany or northern Italy—well-maintained grounds with flower beds and decent shops. There are no dining options at the large Alfsee. You can’t do any of the typical lake activities there. The small lake is almost entirely taken over by the operator of the wakeboarding facility. SUP and similar activities are not possible at all. On the plus... side, however, there’s a small, shallow sandy beach that’s great for young children.
Food and drink prices in the water sports area are overpriced. The Freigeist restaurant was a total no-go for us. Takeout is only available for pizza. Despite the rain, the umbrellas weren’t put up. Guests sat at the tables with their own umbrellas. The campground’s website is good, but that’s about it. There’s practically nothing beyond the campground. And there was hardly anything for older children. The Wi-Fi didn't work, it was completely overcrowded, and there was hardly any lighting after dark. However, for a 5-star campground, some areas could use a little work, and the campsites are quite tight—there’s enough space in front, but on the sides, it gets pretty cramped next to the other campers. - KKKira K.август 2026Staying in a Rental TrailerFirst of all, the RVs are very well equipped. There was even a small clothes rack. Four comfortable camping chairs, a table, and plenty of dishes and cutlery. If you prefer to drink your coffee or tea from a mug, you should bring your own—only cups are provided. There was plenty of toilet paper, and... the mattresses were super comfortable, both in the parents’ bed and in the bunk bed. All windows are equipped with fly screens; only the door lacks a screen, but that’s not a problem as long as you keep it closed. There’s plenty of cabinet space. The small kitchen in the awning is also adequate. It has a refrigerator with a freezer compartment, a microwave with oven and grill functions, and a sink. We brought an air fryer with us, which was very handy. Unfortunately, there was only one outlet available in the awning, but if you bring a three-prong extension cord, you’ll be well-equipped. Since we had very hot summer days—and it gets too stuffy in the awning, so you end up sitting outside—we bought a folding gazebo from Thomas Phillips nearby. It’s a good idea to bring sun protection (an umbrella or gazebo). We didn’t use the shower in the awning because it was easier to shower in the washhouse. That way, you also avoid getting moisture inside the tent. We were very satisfied with our stay in the trailer. We’re also familiar with the Germanenland and its little cabins—both are very cozy in their own way, but the trailer is more comfortable. The vending machines in the men’s restroom are totally out of place at a family campground. The selection in the “supermarket” is actually really great, but it’s way overpriced. - MMMichael M.июль 2026A disappointing stay! 5-star Superior?!Our first—and disappointing—visit to the campground for the following reasons:
- In dry weather, the site resembles a dusty desert. Most of the grass is damaged and dried out; the sites are unpaved and sloped in all directions. The ground is so compacted that during a downpour, the Alfsee lake briefly... overflows onto your own site, and you literally “drown.”
- Gravel paths make it difficult to ride bikes or scooters (not suitable for children)
- There are ONLY “No” signs everywhere: No outside food, no music players, no alcohol (but they still sell beer at the kiosk), no SUPs, no dogs, no bikes,...
- During peak season (school breaks everywhere), neither the beach bar nor the small stalls at the market square or near Burger Biene were open.
- Virtually no entertainment on the stage at the main square, except for one bingo game—and even then, the beverage stand wasn’t open.
- There’s nowhere to sit comfortably and enjoy a freshly poured or mixed drink. Only bottled drinks are available from the small store staffed by English-speaking employees.
- Non-transparent electricity billing. Apparently rounded up per day. I haven’t used the amount of electricity they claim I used anywhere else (thanks largely to solar power). Meter readings aren’t disclosed, even after multiple requests.
- The only bright spot is the restaurant, which offers good-quality food at higher—but reasonable—prices.

The hotel is well-equipped, the breakfast is great, and the spa is the highlight. The hotel staff is always cheerful and helpful. Everything is perfect.
