The café is not to be missed: delicious tarte flambée, wonderful pastries and a breakfast on Sundays and public holidays that is prepared with so much love. The bread roll service in the morning rounds everything off perfectly.

A magical place for nature lovers, hikers and connoisseurs
It is much more than a campsite - it is a place to arrive, take a deep breath and be happy. Nestled in a beautiful, natural landscape, this site offers everything you could wish for in a real time-out: peace, warmth, beautiful nature and an atmosphere that is very rare to find.
The area around Rothenfels... Castle is a dream for hikers and nature lovers. You can set off on a wonderful hike directly from the campsite - the wonderful legend trail, with its stories, natural scenery and lovingly designed stations, is really something very special. You can feel the tranquillity and originality of the region.
Oberwölz is also definitely worth a visit. Charming, well-kept and authentic - with historical flair, lovely little alleyways and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The campsite itself is exceptionally warmly run. Phillip Steiner fulfills this special task with an incredible amount of love and commitment. You immediately notice that this is not just a campsite, but a place with soul. His warmth and hospitality make your stay even more special.
Rothenfels Castle is of course the highlight par excellence. It can be visited in summer and you can feel the history in every corner. There are also regular events that give the place a very special vibrancy. The fact that you can even get married here fits in perfectly with this fairytale atmosphere.
I felt incredibly at home here and have rarely been able to switch off so well anywhere else. Camping Rothenfels is one of those places that will stay with you for a long time and that you can't stop thinking about. For me, an absolute heartfelt recommendation - for campers, hikers, nature lovers and all people who are looking for genuine hospitality. ❤️

An absolute favorite place with a very special atmosphere
For me, Camping Rothenfels is one of those rare places that you don't just visit, but that you take home with you in your heart. Everything is just right here - from the fantastic, natural location right next to the castle, to the warm atmosphere and the palpable passion with which this site is run....
A big compliment goes to Phillip Steiner, the operator and private owner of Burg Rothenfels. You can see in every detail how much passion, responsibility and love he puts into this special place. I have rarely experienced someone who fulfills his task with so much warmth, authenticity and commitment. You don't feel like a guest, but really welcome.
The castle itself is an absolute highlight and can be visited on guided tours in summer, and you can even get married at this historic location. The small café in the garden has also become a real favorite: wonderful atmosphere, incredibly good tarte flambée, delicious cakes and a breakfast that is served with lots of love on Sundays and public holidays. The bread roll service in the morning is also simply wonderful - there's no better way to start a day on vacation.
The sanitary block: Perhaps not a sleek, ultra-modern luxury look, but exceptionally well thought out, functional and spotlessly clean. Plenty of storage space, hooks and everything you really need - you can tell that someone has put some thought into it. And even here, investments and renovations continue, which once again demonstrates the high standards of quality.
The entire site radiates peace, freedom and naturalness. No sterile campsite atmosphere, but a real "pure nature" feeling with a beautiful view, plenty of space and a soothing deceleration. This is exactly where I was able to completely switch off and relax.

Very nice vacation
We were here with our Sprinter, tent and motorcycle and felt very comfortable. Wonderfully located pitch directly below the castle with a beautiful view of the valley. The sanitary block was even heated, always clean and completely adequate.
We particularly liked the fact that we were not forced into... a fixed pitch grid. Everything was handled in an uncomplicated way.
The staff were always very friendly and helpful.
The castle tour is highly recommended, Phillip Steiner does a really nice job.
The e-bikes for hire were in good condition and great fun, unfortunately we only used them on the last day.
We can only recommend the place and it certainly wasn't our last time there.

Beautiful place
Wonderful location above Oberwölz and right next to the castle. The castle can be visited on a guided tour on Saturdays, which is very worthwhile to learn more about the history and the surrounding area. The very friendly owners of the castle also run the campsite, which extends over terraces with a... meadow. Clean and well-kept sanitary building with pleasant showers. Electricity and water well distributed. Very quiet. Small playground. The coffee house next to the office is a real highlight of the campsite. Excellent cakes, snacks, ice cream, cool drinks in a very chilled atmosphere. Oberwölz has a climbing garden, an outdoor pool and restaurants. Lots of hiking opportunities all around, free maps are available at the campsite office.

Camping like it used to be only better
We were given a very warm welcome and were allowed to sit wherever we wanted. Everything is very relaxed and you are not greeted by a list of what you are not allowed to do, but what you are allowed to do. Dogs are also catered for. The café at the campsite is beautifully situated and has a wonderful view over the valley and the town of Oberwölz. The sanitary facilities are ok and very clean.

Was haben wir uns Wohlgefühlt auf Camping Rothenfels!!! Hier war man eindeutig ein Gast!!! Sehr sympathischer Besitzer. Schöne geräumige Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten. Wunderbare Aussicht. Sehr schönes, gemütliches Grand Café mit einer großen Terrasse in dem man als Gast gesehen und bedient wird. Unbedingt empfehlenswert sind die Kähsefondue und der Flamkuchen! Ein Lob an dem Besitzer. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

The Steiner family, who run the campsite and are also the owners of the castle, treat their guests like friends. The choice of pitch and the arrival and departure times are very accommodating. The very best thing, however, is the accompanying garden café, where you can enjoy stylish drinks and homemade & tasty cakes.

Pure glamping: relaxed camping meets stylish luxury
My husband and I were simply thrilled.
The castle tour was a highlight for us. We consumed it for €10 per person (plus a glass of wine or grape juice). The tour lasts about 1.5 hours and was enriched with many beautiful and very personal stories from the mother of the lord of the castle, who will be... celebrating her 50th anniversary next year.
The campsite itself offers spacious sunbathing areas with plenty of trees to provide shade. The sanitary facilities are extremely clean. Fresh bread rolls can be ordered every day.
But the glamorous icing on the cake is the garden café, with a sun terrace offering a wonderful view over the town of Oberwölz. We were able to enjoy the sunset with a cocktail while listening to pleasant music and having nice and stimulating conversations.
It's a real insider tip, because although we were there over Whitsun, there were still a few places available. However, we really enjoyed the peace and quiet.
There are also plenty of leisure activities on offer. Be it the outdoor pool, the high ropes course or the medieval town tour.
We will definitely be back!

We are absolutely thrilled with this wonderful campsite! As soon as you arrive, you are warmly welcomed by the friendly owners - you don't feel like a guest here, but like part of the family. The entire site has been designed with great attention to detail and exudes a pleasant sense of calm and serenity....

The highlight is definitely the location: in the middle of nature, surrounded by forests, the site is located right next to a romantic castle ruin that invites you to explore and dream. The surrounding area is perfect for walks, bike tours, hikes or simply to switch off.

A very special treasure is the small café in the garden - incredibly charming, good drinks, with homemade cakes that taste simply heavenly. Whether in the morning for breakfast or in the afternoon in the sun - it's a wonderful place to linger.

The sanitary facilities are well-kept and very clean, nothing is missing. The pitches are spacious, quiet and offer a fantastic view of the countryside.

Conclusion: If you are looking for a break in an idyllic location, with lots of nature, warmth and a touch of magic, this is the place for you. We'll definitely be back - and soon! ❤️⛺🌿

Get lost before arriving, the pitches are below the reception. The pitches are comfortable, electricity is available, as is water. Sanitary facilities are centrally located, simply equipped, but sufficient and clean. The staff are very courteous and helpful with tips for excursions. The bread roll service is worthwhile.
