Great weekend in Sustrum
It was our first stay at this campsite. Certainly not our last! Very friendly operators, beautiful, spacious grounds. Everything very clean and well-kept. And heavenly peace and quiet (if you like listening to birdsong and the cuckoo), just the wonderful chirping. Great!

Not only the weather was great at Whitsun 2026, but also the Emstal campsite. It was my first time there and I'm thrilled. The pitches are a pleasant size and you don't feel cramped. Electricity, water and waste water connections everywhere. Although the site was fully booked, the sanitary facilities... were always very clean and well maintained. If you like to travel by bike, dog or on foot or want to have some peace and quiet, this is the place for you. You can get pitches with shade or in the sun and it is wonderfully quiet. The operators are very nice, friendly and helpful. It's also worth mentioning that the prices are really okay and fair compared to other places. I will gladly book there again, especially as I have a relatively short journey there.

A lovingly managed place, which the owners took over only 2 years ago.
Continuous further development (renovation)
Through the plots you are almost to yourself, you sometimes hear something from the neighbor or a dog.
But that should be normal.
Otherwise perfect to come down and relax.
We will definitely be back!

Great campsite
We stayed here for 4 nights with our motorhome and really enjoyed it. If you are looking for peace and quiet and closeness to nature, this is the place for you. The owners Nadine and Andreas put their heart and soul into their work and make you feel welcome from the very first moment. Dogs are also welcome guests here and the place is a good starting point for short and long walks.
We will definitely be back.

Very nice campsite for those seeking peace and quiet
Even after the change of ownership this year, the great atmosphere of the campsite has been retained. This is thanks to Nadine and Andreas, who fortunately don't want to introduce any great innovations such as wellness, glamping, entertainment and the like. Thank you for that!!! Unfortunately, there... are only a few places left that still offer a little original camping. This site is one of them and is therefore our favorite place where we can relax and find peace and quiet. The site is also dog-friendly, which makes us very happy with our dog. A big thank you goes to Nadine and Andreas for their friendliness and helpfulness. Keep up the good work!

The site is very close to nature and is located directly on the Ems. The pitches are large, the choice is sunny as well as shady. The wash house is very well maintained, as good as new and was always clean. The operators are very nice, seem absolutely competent and look after their guests in a very friendly manner. We were there for a week. We really enjoyed it!!! We will be back! 😀

You might not believe it, but I can't think of any disadvantages. Maybe that there is no TV reception in some places because of the beautiful old trees.
Pure peace and relaxation
We received a very warm welcome from Andreas and were able to choose a pitch at our leisure. The pitches are all on grass and have different vegetation. There is a very nice walk along the field, through a small forest, along the Ems and the Dortmund-Ems Canal. You can walk through the fields to Steinbild/Walchum... or in the other direction to the Düthe lock. The surrounding villages can also be reached quickly by bike. We really enjoyed our 5-day stay there and will definitely be back. A clear recommendation from us.

Place with realistic top ratings
A fine place with the aim of the young operators to serve a certain clientele and they do this very well, although they have only been in operation for a short time. Chapeau.
The 99 percent positive reviews of this place are shared by all of us.
There will and should always be dissenters.

Owners very nice, flexible and helpful. Super sanitary facilities with hairdryers, spacious showers and everything is spotlessly clean. Large pitches and great location on the Ems. You can borrow a SUB and there is also a bathing area where you can take your dog too

Top address for relaxation
We had a perfect last day of our vacation! Our daughter went stand-up paddle boarding for the first time and had a lot of fun. It's great for cycling or walking along the Ems. We can really recommend this place! And the sanitary facilities are the best we've ever had on a campsite!

In contrast to other campsites, this is not an advantage.

The access road to the site is in a poor condition (dirt track). The access to the reception is also primitive. The path to the sanitary building, the garbage station, the emptying chemical toilet, the disabled toilet consists of coarse Tuscan gravel with a thickness of 2.5 - 5 cm. This is not suitable for people who have limited mobility and are dependent on walking aids. The overall maintenance of the site leaves a lot to be desired. Good shopping facilities at least 16km away The price for what is offered (nothing) is disproportionately high. Telephone queries on the answering machine with the request for a call back are not dealt with. E-mails are not answered etc.
More appearance than reality
My experiences at CP Emstal from camper <-> camper:

Unfortunately, there are always narrow-minded and intolerant neighbors who can spoil the stay.
It seems to me that the owner hardly cares about the concerns of the guests, makes slogans, advertises without end with all means, and takes his "work" on... the PC more important, while the owner spends more time with her garden and her dogs. There are no rules to maintain a certain amount of privacy here. Disturbing noise seems to be a foreign concept to the owners. The previous owner had clear rules (which every camper adhered to), which are completely absent today. The main thing is to make money. Long live anarchy.

The exhaust air system and underfloor heating were taken "out of service" for cost reasons. Doors removed and windows opened instead. Long live the foreseeable growth of black mold in the shower area.

Incidentally, dogs have become a nuisance on the site. They used to be limited, which worked very well.

The large meadow, which used to serve as a place for activities with grandchildren such as kite flying and badminton, is gone or in poor condition (grass is almost 1 m high) and this campsite is unsuitable for people with pollen allergies.

I think the green area functions more as a dog toilet and is more a home to ticks and countless 4-legged gray-brown animals that may visit you in the awning at night. Former animal species (birds of prey that caught mice, among other things) are hardly to be seen.

Despite all efforts to create the impression of nature conservation, there is a lack of real knowledge and understanding here, including knowledge of human nature.

I hope this information helps you in your decision making - don't be blinded by the "appearance of so-called do-gooder reviews (neither here nor on Google)".

We were guests at the campsite last weekend and received a very warm welcome. Everything was perfect from the very first moment. The site is great, the pitches are very green and large. I would rate the sanitary facilities with all the trimmings at 5* +. Everything makes a well-maintained impression. It's quiet there and you can't hear any car noise, perfect for relaxing. You should definitely bring your own bikes, as there is a beautiful network of cycle paths along the Ems. We will definitely be back

Quiet location directly on the Ems. No road traffic perceptible. Not far from kilometers of cycle paths along the Ems and the Dortmund - Ems Canal. Nice, quiet campers, many regular guests. Sanitary facilities impeccable. The new operators have created some amenities in the last few months. These include good WLAN reception, cozy benches or hammock directly on the shore... etc... Nadine's radiant smile puts us in a good mood and Andreas' willingness to help with the many tasks is admirable. We wish them much joy and success in their new challenge!

Enjoy nature and tranquillity
As we had already visited this campsite several times, we would like to make the following comment: We found electricity billing according to consumption to be fairer, as many caravans do not have air conditioning and mainly only the refrigerator or the economical lighting needs electricity.

Top-managed campsite in a beautiful and quiet location
We were last at this wonderful campsite in 2019 and have now (2025) spent the Whitsun weekend there with our caravan. The new operator couple Wanke took over Camping Emstal fresh in April 2025 and you can tell from their positive energy how they want to carefully optimize and design the site according... to their ideas. It makes a very fresh impression. However, what could be improved on the site? The pitches are all very generously sized and - apart from a few undulations - are also fairly level and very easy to drive on. The sanitary building is as well maintained as ever and the layout is almost luxurious. The service and facilities are unchanged - even under new management. The campsite is in a very idyllic location. You can't get away without your own means of transportation (bicycles are ideal), but this also perfectly describes the target group of the campsite: here you are looking for peace and quiet and closeness to nature and you get this in the best possible way. This relaxed atmosphere is also noticeable in the guests.
If there was anything to optimize, it would be the access road to the campsite. It has become quite bumpy and as you wouldn't be able to find the site from the access road without a sign, it's hard to believe that this is the access road to the site. No big deal, but this entrance could perhaps be tackled. But I'm sure that this will be on the agenda with the new operator couple sooner or later anyway. I wish them all the best with it. We'll be back 😊!

Perfect camping experience
I have already seen many places - here everything is just right for the camper looking for peace and quiet, whether with a motorhome, caravan or tent.

Super resort
We have just spent a week at the Emstal campsite. We were given a very warm welcome and were able to approach the owners at any time with questions.
The site has very large pitches which are fenced off with trees and bushes.
The sanitary building is very well maintained and there are very large shower... cubicles.
We can highly recommend the site, if you like absolute peace and quiet (only the cuckoo and birdsong could be heard) and cycling along the Ems, you should definitely spend your vacation here.
