Description

Profile
This is a quiet camp site, and the only camp site situated within Galloway Forest Park and the UK's first Dark Sky Park. It is the perfect expedition base camp to go explore the 300 square miles of rugged, breathtaking … landscapes which is home to a wide variety of wildlife including birds of prey. We have14 large, hard-standing pitches for caravans and motor homes, all with electricity available, a motorhome service point, tent pitches – some with electric hook ups, a small shop on site and shower block facilities. All facilities are maintained to a high standard. We also have self-catering holiday caravans available to hire – perfect for family holiday breaks. Close by is the coast-to-coast Southern Upland Way which passes near to us, making it an ideal stop-over for those taking the walk from Portpatrick to Eyemouth. ; the spectacular Loch Trool; the RSPB Wood of Cree Nature Reserve and two of the world-renowned 7Stanes Mountain Biking Trails, make this the perfect base camp for your expeditions into the great outdoors! There's also some tremendous hillwalking in the Galloway Hills with the highest peak (The Merrick) standing at 2,766ft. The Galloway Forest Park also has 250 lochs and covers an area of 300 square miles. We are around 9 miles north of Newton Stewart which is 51 miles from Dumfries in the east and 25 miles from Stranraer in the west, only a short drive from the Cairnryan / Belfast ferry route. Despite lying within of one of Scotland's great wilderness areas, Glentrool Holiday Park in the Galloway Forest Park is just over two hours' drive from the M6 / M74 on the Border between England and Scotland. The Galloway Forest Park has some of Scotland’s most amazing wildlife – but without the long drive north including Red Squirrels, Otter, Pine Marten, Black Grouse, Golden Eagles, Red Deer and even Nightjar. There is also a great pub and restaurant just a few minutes walk from us. This is a very special area and we look forward to welcoming you here.
