Profile

Birkhede Camping is a family-run campsite that has been owned and operated by three generations of the same family since 1962. It is beautifully situated in the heart of the Danish Lake District, on the shores of Lake Knudsø and …close to the towns of Ry and Silkeborg. The scenic surroundings offer excellent opportunities for relaxation, activities and experiences for the whole family. The campsite is located in a protected, hilly Ice Age landscape surrounded by heather-clad hills, forests and lakes. With direct access to Lake Knudsø, the Gudenå River and the Silkeborg Lakes, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the water. Guests can rent canoes, SUP boards, rowing boats and kayaks or make use of the campsite's marina. The area also offers excellent opportunities for hiking, including the Gudenå Route and the Aarhus-Silkeborg Route, as well as boat trips on the historic Hjejlen and the Himmelbjerget boats. Families with children will find plenty of activities. Birkhede Camping has heated outdoor swimming pools, a lake swimming area, three playgrounds, inflatable jumping cushions and a large multi-purpose sports court for activities such as football, basketball and handball. There are also indoor facilities including table tennis, air hockey and table football. The campsite also rents out rowing boats and canoes. There are many different accommodation options. Guests can choose from pitches for caravans and tents, motorhome pitches, cabins, rental caravans, rooms and family apartments. The camping pitches are arranged across several levels and terraces, offering a choice of views of the heather-covered hills, proximity to the lake, or a location close to the swimming pools and playgrounds. Birkhede Camping is also close to some of the greatest attractions in Eastern and Central Jutland. Ry is approximately 3 km away, Silkeborg approximately 18 km and Aarhus approximately 34 km. The campsite also provides easy access to attractions such as Himmelbjerget, AQUA Aquarium & Wildlife Park, Den Gamle By, ARoS, LEGOLAND and Djurs Sommerland.
