"Refreshingly different.... - We spent one night at this campsite as we were passing through. We didn't have any particular expectations, we just wanted to stay overnight - two small signs showed us the way, the site is a little outside the village and the road had a few potholes. The site itself is unspectacular, meadow, a few trees. There is a road, which is not surprising given the valley location - there is also a railroad line - so you can hear traffic, but not obtrusively loud. The sanitary facilities are self-built, but clean (funny feature: in the evening the chickens sit on the window sills, so you might have a spectator while brushing your teeth). There is a blow-out pool measuring approx. 13x6m, a table tennis table, a soccer pitch and so on - not spectacular. You can also swim in the river, but we didn't try it out. The focus is on the food, which is 100% organic - even if it's "only" pizza and pasta - everything is handmade and you can find out where every local product used comes from; much of it (cheese, ham, wine) can also be bought directly on site. And the prices are okay, i.e. despite being organic, they are at the usual national level (pizza between €9-11) and, unusually, you even get a carafe of bottled water with it (thought this had died out in France)! By the way, the "kitchen is the counter, the chef prepares everything in front of his guests - in the evening he quickly bakes the bread for the next day. Next plus point: the chef, i.e. the service. Okay, he doesn't speak German, but he's very friendly. The whole place lives this friendliness and due to its size it is much more familiar than in large places. You can tell that a lot of effort is made there - there is a playroom for the kids with lots of games, books, keyboards and so on (right next to the restaurant, so you can keep an eye on the little ones). There is lots of information material about the region (brochures, these little cards, etc., as well as a range of books to browse through). In short: If you expect action and animation here, you're wrong. You have to actively explore the region - the right contact person is available on site. It's true that if you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet and don't necessarily want to stay for two weeks, you'll find a reasonably priced and above all somewhat different camping experience here. Because of this "otherness", I award 4 stars here; purely based on the facilities, it would only be 3.
