- Possible downside: no grocery stores; it's a 30-minute walk down the mountain to Appenzell. - There aren't just gravel-covered, nearly flat spots—there are also meadow spots, where you'll need decent wheel chocks.
A fantastic campground with a fantastic view
For us, this campground was a dream. The family that owns it welcomed us warmly and showed us to our site. The restrooms and showers are new and clean. Even though there aren’t too many of them, there were no wait times. We highly recommend it, though it’s not exactly cheap. But it’s worth it. We’re sure we’ll be back.

Sloped campsites. Not enough showers and restrooms for the size of the campground
A Short Trip to Appenzell
On the plus side, the campground offers a unique view of the surrounding area.
Unfortunately, the sites for RVs and trailers are very narrow and, in some cases, quite sloped, making it difficult to level out the vehicle even with wheel chocks.
There are far too few restroom facilities for the size of... the campground (three showers per restroom and the same number of toilets).
You should bring plenty of extension cords, as the electrical hookups are spaced far apart.
The wellness area for campers is only available for a fee.

Here, you’re still greeted personally by the family that owns the place. My grandparents loved it 30 years ago, and we still do today. Great campground with a beautiful mountain view. Everything is well-maintained, and the staff is very friendly. 5 stars +

Review of CP Eischen
We stayed here for 10 days in June. We also regularly spend New Year’s Eve at this campground. A very well-maintained, year-round campground at 1,000 meters above sea level. Magnificent views. Lovely countryside, ideal for hiking and biking. Beautiful wellness area, restaurant with a large terrace.... Very friendly hosts and staff. Modern, always clean restroom facilities. Always well-heated in winter. Electricity, water supply, and waste disposal—everything is available. We keep coming back here.

A camping site for campers
The view and the location are breathtaking. You will find peace and quiet, but you can also do a lot. Whether by bike or on foot, many destinations are within easy reach. The restaurant serves excellent food. The wellness area is also superbly equipped and leaves nothing to be desired.

Super nice hosts, upscale gastronomy, beautiful landscape
We only stayed there briefly from the end of June to the beginning of July 2025 because we were just passing through. The road both there and back is a challenge with a horse and cart in oncoming traffic. However, the beautiful surroundings made up for everything. The hosts are warm and friendly and... made us feel welcome as guests. The restaurant is top class, simply excellent. The head chef, who is also the junior chef on the estate, welcomed us with a handshake. A few days later, he rescued us from an awkward situation by pulling our caravan from the damp meadow with his tractor. Unfortunately, our front-wheel drive Benz, with tires that were probably too old, couldn't manage it. But the boss was there immediately to help us. There is even a cool wellness oasis. Beautiful surroundings and super friendly hosts. We would love to come back and thank you again for your help!

Small CP with a great view
Pitches mostly flat. Relaxed atmosphere. Everything very well maintained. The sanitary facilities are modern and were always very clean. There is also a modern wellness area. Good place for hiking or to make a stop on the Grand Tour.

Beautiful view
There are only 6 showers and 6 toilets (3 each for men and women) for the whole campsite, which are always available (in the morning you can still use the toilets in the restaurant).
There is also a charge for the showers, which have to be paid for with coins. The cleanliness of the women's toilets was... also rather limited. But it was OK for the men.

The senior manager at reception wasn't exactly bubbling over with cordiality either (to put it mildly).

The view and the food in the restaurant (with corresponding prices at a Gilde restaurant), on the other hand, are wonderful.
