A campground with a great deal of potential for improvement.
We chose the campground in Groß-Ringmar based on its website, since it’s located near the “Lower Saxony Mill Route.” Unfortunately, the reality didn’t live up to the description. Upon arriving at the campground, our first impression was: Well, okay. This impression was then confirmed throughout the entire... campground. Aside from a few permanent sites, the campground was—and still is—a mess. It’s full of abandoned permanent sites covered in junk and other debris. Bushes have overgrown the former swimming pool. There are thorny hedges and the like everywhere. There’s not much left of the mini-golf course. Everything is overgrown. What a shame, what a shame, what a shame. It will take weeks, if not months, to clear the site of debris (though in the back area, where we were parked, there is a nice grassy area). When asked about the condition of the campground, long-term campers explained that the current owner purchased the property about 8–10 years ago. He has another job as his main source of income. That explains a lot. No one can do more than their fair share of work. The restroom facilities also urgently need renovation. Some work is apparently underway. However, during our 3-day stay, the area wasn’t even swept once. The door handle on the inside of the outer door has likely been missing for quite some time. You have to grip the door frame to push the door open outward. It’s also advisable to bring a flashlight, since the lights are turned off by a timer around 10:20 p.m., leaving you sitting in the dark in the restroom area. Dog waste bags are disposed of in a large trash container right at the entrance to the restroom building. However, this container was overflowing. We’ve been visiting various sites for years. Unfortunately, this one was the worst we’ve seen in years, even though significant improvements could be made with very little effort.
