"Disaster and there's an excuse for everything - Unfortunately, our experience at the Assel-Süd campsite on Lake Edersee was thoroughly disappointing. The difficulties began as soon as we arrived: Although the reception was supposed to be manned until 6 pm, we found it deserted. It was only after a long wait that the operator arrived and finally allocated us a pitch - unfortunately, we couldn't find it due to missing or unclear markings. The entire camping meadow was very uneven, steeply sloping and extremely hard. The ground was strewn with stones and barely overgrown, which made it almost impossible to hammer in pegs. Overall, the site made a neglected impression and there were very few other guests on site. Another negative point was the catering on the site. At around 5:45 p.m., we wanted to stop in but were told that no drinks were available to take away and that all the tables were occupied - even though the restaurant was empty. All the tables inside were free and there were still seats available outside. When we asked for a later reservation, we were told that the owner wanted to barbecue herself at 8 p.m. on the dot - and therefore there would be no more service. This was a serious problem for us, who had cycled 130 km that day and had no more supplies of our own. The nearest place with restaurants was around 8 kilometers away. A small snack - such as chips or a sandwich - would have made our situation much easier. There was also no indication of alternatives, such as delivery services or vending machines. The operator's tone was distant, she avoided eye contact and gave the impression that she had little interest in our concerns. One ray of hope was the friendly employee who finally gave us a bottle of water - for which we are very grateful. However, the overall impression of the campsite is very negative. "Edersee paradise? - All in all, the place is very unkempt. The sanitary facilities are outdated and - the facilities in the courtyard - were not cleaned. The lighting of the toilet (motion detector) does not work reliably, so that you stood in the dark at night. I was there over Whitsun and it was very noisy due to many groups. Price-performance ratio too high. My conclusion: once and not again

"Paradise? - We were there with a caravan over Corpus Christi. The approach was difficult as it was too narrow. We left with the help of a tractor. The site consists mainly of meadow areas or permanent campers. The numerous permanent camping pitches are partly neglected. Due to the heavy rain, the ground was very muddy (drainage?). The sanitary facilities could do with renovation. Some of the toilet blocks reminded me of the highway... Despite the well-filled site, it was very quiet on our pitch. Unfortunately, I can't rate the "restaurant" as it was completely overwhelmed and a visit was therefore not possible. Overall, the price/performance ratio is not right.

"Super beautiful landscape - otherwise pure chaos - This place is so beautifully situated and has a very special flair. But the feeling that something was started here a long time ago and then nothing was ever done again prevails. There is so much potential, but unfortunately the operators have become "blind". What a pity.

"Very chaotic, very loud and original. - The course management is very chaotic. Everything takes ages. Exactly the same in the store. It's also poorly stocked and has short opening hours. There don't seem to be any rules here. Loud conversations, in large groups, until 2-3 o'clock at night. Disposing of bottles and washing up until after midnight. Stupid if you have set up next to it. Many places are simply large and sloping meadows. Nobody knows exactly where which pitch starts. Sanitary very outdated and above all rarely cleaned. The price is simply too high for all this. If you like to party and stay up late, this is the place for you. If, like me, you are looking for a few quiet days, this is not the place for you. The only bright spot was the restaurant on site. Everything tasted good there.

"Pure nature and idyllic tranquillity. You feel welcome! - If you like it natural, this is the place for you. If you need a 5-star campsite with lots of comfort, this is not the place for you. If you leave your garbage bag in front of your tent overnight, you will find it picked apart by raccoons in the morning. The focus here is on the animals and that's how we like it. A first-class campsite for nature lovers and people who love to sit around the campfire in the evening. As we sometimes just stand somewhere, we are equipped with long power cables. You need them here in some places. Not all places are straight, especially if you want to stand near the animal paddocks. On the other side of the main path, where the permanent campers also stand, you will find many flat pitches.
