Small, quiet square behind a sports field
The site is in a very quiet location. Ideal connection to the A75. Also suitable for larger mobile homes. Suitable for motorcyclists passing through with a tent. There is a barbecue restaurant on the other side of the road. I will be stopping there again next year on my way south and back.

Camping au Massif Central
The municipal campsite "Municipal de l'Allagnon" is very close to the toll-free north-south connection "La Méridienne", also known as the A75, which allows you to travel (almost) free of charge from Clermont-Ferrand down to Beziers through the gigantic massif central in the heart of France. Only the... crossing of the imposing Viaduc de Millau is charged at around a tenner, depending on the vehicle or vehicle combination, but you have to have done it at least once, also to take a few photos at the adjacent rest area. But the viaduc lies much further south, in Massiac we are now almost at the gates of Clermont-Ferrand. Shortly before the end of the toll-free route, the site is ideal for an overnight stay, as you can leave very quickly (approx. 3 km) and reach the driveway again the next day (the tiny village actually has two connections, it's hard to believe) just as quickly and easily. The site is located on the eponymous little river, which flows right past many of the pitches - it's simply wonderful to dip your feet in the water here in summer. It's wonderfully quiet (a little village noise and the odd tractor can be heard, of course) and you simply feel at home. The site changed tenants in 2014 (possibly not for the first time), you are given a very warm welcome, assigned a pitch (although there is never really anything going on here; 3/4 of the pitches are free, so choosing one would be no problem) and given a barrier card if you indicate that you want to leave by car in the evening. Bread can be ordered in the evening and cold drinks are available at reception if they have just run out. The price is a very reasonable ~14 euros including electricity, the bill is still written by hand. There are a few long-term French campers and three or four mobile homes on the site (but no permanent camp atmosphere - don't worry, there is virtually no such thing in France); it is located right next to the "stade", the large soccer pitch. Conveniently, the piscine municipal is also next to it, so you can also cool off. The pitches vary in size and are comfortable, but the sanitary facilities are old southern French municipal standard and have not been renovated for a long time. They are kept as clean as possible, but there are still open houses to the sides, where you can expect to find a somewhat larger spider in the shower, so you shouldn't be too squeamish. This is the only point worth considering for sensitive minds. In Massiac itself there are ATMs, cafés and bars, and if you cycle once from the square (away to the right) over the small, old bridge and then immediately turn left, you will reach the longitudinal axis through the village. After about a kilometer on the left is a Spar (or similar), a small supermarket that sells gas cartridges, for example. Curiously, these are not available in the small Intermarché at the end of the through road (approx. 1.5 km), but there is a highway junction and a correspondingly cheap filling station. Please note: as is still customary in small French villages, this is a lunch break. But it's ideal for refueling, as you can fill up with diesel between half past two and half past two. Otherwise, Massiac has nothing interesting to offer, but for children the campsite is a good place to spend the night thanks to the adjacent swimming pool, the small, fresh river and the safe location (100m from the nearest road). In addition, the drive through the entire massif central is an absolute must for the passionate traveler to France, which should be done at least once in a lifetime - the highway runs through truly spectacular scenery, which also impresses children.
