We occasionally visit Leipzig for the weekend and are looking for a campsite for two nights.
The Leipzig lakes are a good choice, especially the site at Kulkwitzer See,
Unfortunately, only three or four nights in total are available here and at the other campsites in Leipzig's Neuseenland!
Now we wanted... to have a look at the Kulki site on Saturday, 30.08.25.
Now the dialog with an employee at the reception:
Me: We want to have a look at the place.
Employee: No problem, I'll open the gate.
Me: I'd like to ask why bookings are only possible for four nights or more?
Employee: That's not so much work for us with booking in and out!
Me: But that's inconvenient for us. (At this point I would have expected concessions, but...))
Employee: That's not our problem!
Me: (Wordlessly) Then we don't need to look at the space. Bye !

At some point the camping boom will die down, then things will look different,
even for the sites that have already made too much money from us campers.
So we'll stick to the tried-and-tested site on Lake Markkleeberg, where more is possible and the staff are very welcoming.

Close to Leipzig, were in the city center in 30 min by bike. Lidl within walking distance. Clear water.
Negativa
Directly on the public beach, sometimes very noisy. Few fresh water points. No garbage cans far and wide, only the main rubbish dump. Very expensive.
Price-performance ratio insufficient
Paid over 210€ for 4 nights. Public lido sometimes very noisy. Mini playground but at least in the shade. Not really suitable for children as there is nothing on offer. Wouldn't come back again for the price. There is a snack bar offering what felt like 5 Asian dishes and chips. Sanitary facilities rather inadequate.

Friendly operators, direct access to the lake, large parking space, beautiful circular path around the lake without additional access

Too few sanitary facilities, not very thorough cleaning, unattractive play area for children, no shopping facilities on site, simple restaurant, high additional fee for extension into the afternoon despite weak occupancy request by subsequent tenants
For simple requirements
The site is in an idyllic and quiet location and has direct access to the lake with its own small section of beach. However, it seems to get too small in the middle of summer.
The shade provided by trees is mostly poor.
The staff and the campsite management are friendly.
There are no shopping facilities on site.

Never again to this campsite.
Totally overcrowded with diving tourists who are considerate of other guests, not divers. There is no control to keep order and partying divers who are loud on your east site until 2 o'clock at night.
The infrastructure of the site is very run down. Although the pitches... are separated, the ground is totally unkempt. Thick stones are not good for an awning carpet. The sanitary building by the lake has never been cleaned in the "outdoor area", the plants growing through the wood are happy. There are only a few water points on the site. Camping toilet must be made with the motorhome disposal area, very nice outdoors in the rain.
Overall, I can not recommend the place as a vacation spot, you can tell that it is not privately run and a municipal company has the say here.

Great lake with crystal clear water and a fantastic sunset.

Fast-food and deep-fried snacks at high prices. Many small lakes on pitches and paths after heavy rain. Rarely cleaned washing-up areas including waste disposal. Sanitary areas not cleaned for several days. Beach area not inviting for long stays.
Camping at Kulki in August
A parking space was still available at short notice. Admission possible after the reception opened at 2 pm. Pitch large enough for caravan and car. Good starting point for exploring Leipzig's sights. Unfortunately little drainage, which is why lakes form. Snack bar and restaurants only open until around 8pm.
Probably won't come here again!

Not a nice campsite
Campsite is not recommended. Completely fenced, you need a key for everything, sometimes several gates. The campsite is mostly gravel for caravans, not very pleasant. There is almost no view of the lake. Sanitary areas are often dirty, there is a lack of regular cleaning. Reception becomes unfriendly as soon as there are problems. No kiosk available.

- only 3 ! showers for men for 330 pitches. There are 3 wash houses, but only one with showers open for men. There were 2 wash houses open for ladies, which had showers. - The cleanliness of the sanitary blocks was poor. Overall impression was that there was not enough staff. Closing the wash houses due to "technical defects" was unbelievable for us. - Long waiting times at reception. Only a maximum of 2 people from one household were allowed to enter. - Outdated information on corona protection measures was disconcerting. - Overall, the campsite was poorly maintained.
Campsite with a lot of upside potential.
We had the impression that there was not enough staff. We would have liked more friendliness and cleanliness.

More customer proximity instead of too many regulations (distance rules and other signs) would enhance the campsite.

Ladies at reception sometimes not friendly. If you try to call reception, it's like trying to win the lottery. For reservations you have to book at least three nights. If you are on the pitch one day less, then this is simply passed on (double booking and therefore double payment) The pitches are more reminiscent of a dirty place than a cozy place. Dogs defecate on the beach and are sometimes not cleaned up. Standup paddleboarders are sometimes very inconsiderate towards beach visitors.
It used to be better
We have been vacationing at Lake Kulkwitz for many years now. The lake is still beautiful, but unfortunately the campsite leaves a lot to be desired ... and you really don't know where to start.
The cleanliness in the toilets and showers is subterranean. The cleaning times are more than modest compared... to other campsites, as the busiest time is between 8-10 am. While the prices are constantly increasing, the campsite is far from renewing or modernizing the washrooms.
The beach area is actually beautiful - great views and plenty of shade. However, nothing has been done here for years and there seems to have been no thought given to filling in some sand so that you are not sitting on bare stone. Children now also have few opportunities to play by the water, as the beach area has become a parking lot for stand-up poodles and inflatable boats. Not to mention the danger when everyone approaches the beach area in an uncoordinated manner. Here, too, there should be a separate area and clear rules - as well as controls and warnings. This also applies to the dogs on the beach that leave their dog poo next to the bathers.
Last but not least, it remains for us to mention the booking system (everyone can read about the sharp rise in prices in recent years for themselves) as an absolute shortcoming. Even in the low season, you have to book three nights. Great if you want to stay from Friday to Sunday and have to book Thursday or Monday as well. Here, too, we have already experienced that the pitch is then occupied twice if the guests who have booked until Monday already leave on Sunday, then you can easily occupy the pitch again. That's not possible. And be careful, dear potential vacationers! If you do find that something has gone wrong with your booking, don't think you'll be able to reach anyone by phone. On the other hand

It's unbelievable what the owners get away with.

This campsite on Lake Kulkwitz was intended as a 3-day stopover after a vacation in Italy.

As soon as we arrived, we were overwhelmed by a flood of signs. There were at least 4 signs pointing to a mask and others that I can't even remember now.
Next... thing I know, an angry janitor storms in who didn't want to do some work. I think it's clear from the pictures that he's neglected several jobs recently.

The next annoyance was not long in coming.
The good lady at reception showed us the wrong way to our pitch. We had to turn into a road that you definitely can't turn into with a trailer without hijacking a lamppost.
Luckily we have a mover and were able to save the situation.
I like staff who know their stuff!!!

When we finally arrived at the site, we were surprised by a desolate, unkempt, dusty desert. This site had not yet been maintained this year.
Little did we know that this upkeep would accompany us throughout the entire campsite.
Untrimmed hedges, knee-high weeds on the paths and lawns, etc.

Well, a visit to the lake and a meal at the snack bar would certainly soften the initial shock.
If you then stand in the lake and take a look back at the bathing area, a concrete edge immediately catches your eye. This is approx. 15 cm thick and stretches over a length of almost 10 meters and peeks out of the sand. (for whatever reason it is there)

What made us leave early, however, was not the spider-infested washing-up area

The site is beautifully situated right on the lake with its own small section of beach, but that's all.
You are treated rather anonymously and the pitches are not maintained. Overgrown undergrowth, deep holes and hardly any grass left. If you arrive with a dog, which is allowed according to the homepage,... your movement is extremely restricted. Dogs are banned at the lake, at the snack bar and on certain paths on the site. The crowning glory, however, are the permanent campers, who immediately chase you away in a rather unfriendly manner if you come too close to their area. Prohibition signs wherever you go. Contrary to all statements, the site was not fully booked in the middle of August, there were 3 free pitches in our row alone. No wonder, because we won't be coming here again. What a shame really ...

The pitch was sufficient in size, the sanitary facilities were always in a clean condition. Cycle path starts right at the site, there is a small beach.
Negativa
You need at least a 40 m cable as the connections are far away, even the fresh water stations are far away. With the gray water and sewage tanks, you have to walk once across the entire site, as there is only one place to dispose of the motorhome.

The site is fine for 1 to 2 nights. The planting and green areas are unkempt.

A great place right on the lake whose water is crystal clear. The sanitary facilities were always clean. The place is well maintained. What is negative is that since this year you can only book from 3 nights. This means that the site is no longer a weekend destination 🤷🏼‍♂️.

So no quick trip to the Kulki for camping over the weekend. For diving, for example, or as a stopover on a longer tour.

Crystal clear water in the lake
Beautiful place on the lake, the water and the beach are super clean. The sanitary facilities were constantly cleaned. The staff were always helpful and friendly. On the lake itself there are lots of opportunities for all kinds of water sports. There were families with children and some with dogs, couples,... senior citizens, youth groups and water sports enthusiasts on the site, a colorful mix that worked well. A contact person was available at all times. The site is securely locked at night but can be entered or left by campers at any time. There are shops nearby. A petrol station is also not far away. There are stops on the Leipzig public transport network.
Leipzig is always worth a visit.
There are also lots of things worth visiting in the area around Leipzig.

On our way home from vacation, we chose the campsite at Kulkwitzer See, which is strategically located on the A9. When we arrived, we had to spend some time at the registration desk, which was only manned by one person. I was told that it wasn't possible to stay for one night, but she didn't give me... a reason why. I then paid for two nights as it was too late to continue my journey. This has never happened to me on a campsite before, so we only stayed one night.
We had to find a pitch ourselves, which wasn't easy either. I was told at registration that the washroom with the showers would be locked at 9pm, allegedly because it had been destroyed!
The organization on this site no longer corresponds to modern times, an elaborate key system contributes to this. Despite the beautiful location, I cannot recommend the site. PS: Visa Card is not accepted and the snack bar closes very early)
