The friendliness and assistance during check-in, the cleanliness of the restrooms, and the campground’s beautiful park-like setting are so wonderful that we’ll definitely be back. Our grandson... is already looking forward to next summer and the kids’ activities.
Starting next year, we’d also love to book a longer stay—say, 88 days.

After getting all the necessary information, we drove to the campground. Luckily, we could choose our own spot, so we set up right next to what appeared to be the only electrical outlet. (We were told there were several others, but we didn’t find any—except... for a shelter with lockers for charging cell phones.) I’ll get back to that later.
The field was clean, and there were several trash cans there. Unfortunately, these are constantly being filled with campers’ household trash, even though there are recycling stations on the grounds.
In a small shelter, there was a covered outdoor sink. I would have liked it to be swept and cleared of spider webs every now and then. Also, it squeaks loudly when water is running—even at night.
We found the power outlet two days later BEHIND AN electrical box. Please mark it clearly!!! But depending on your spot, you’ll need over 50 meters of cable and a SCHUKO plug!!! instead of a CCE plug.
It was very quiet at night. Great!
The nearest washhouse (No. 1) was a nightmare. Old, moldy showers that splashed water everywhere. If 6 minutes of water isn’t enough, you have to throw more money into the slot OUTSIDE the stall—while you’re still undressed—in the middle of your shower. Apparently, it’s supposed to be renovated. It’s better to go to the newer buildings and pay the higher shower fee—it’s worth it.
The playground and swimming area, on the other hand, were a dream. Clean, spacious, and well-maintained.
The adjacent indoor playground “Kinderkram” is a great place to hang out when the weather’s bad. But you can also sit there without paying admission just to grab a snack or chat.
Kids’ activities: there were some good options for my younger child, but not much for the 11- and 14-year-olds. The great staff could definitely come up with some cool ideas there. Too bad that for five days, three times a day, the shuttle never stopped at the tent field to pick up the kids—it always drove right past 😞
Other great features: a 24-hour vending machine for snacks and drinks (hopefully soon including other camping essentials as well)

This is easier on the back and makes daily life with children much simpler. Child-friendly facilities right outside the door: The park offers safe, manageable areas, playgrounds, and direct access to the swimming lake. Grandchildren can move about freely and independently, while adults can easily keep an eye on them. A weather-proof retreat: When the weather in northern Germany is lousy, the covered terrace and the solid living area of a lodge offer significantly more protection, floor space, and coziness than a standard family tent. Perfect location for excursions: Thanks to its location in Westoverledingen, the area is ideal for leisurely bike rides along the Ems dike as well as day trips to nearby Leer or Papenburg (e.g., the Meyer shipyard).NegativnoThere isn't a bar or beer garden where you can have an evening "nightcap" without leaving the grounds. As grandparents, we spent two wonderful weeks with our grandchildren at the Am Emsdeich amusement park and returned home absolutely thrilled. Choosing a tent lodge was exactly the right decision for us!
Glamping at its... finest
The tent lodge completely won us over: it offers the perfect blend of an authentic camping experience and cozy comfort. Sturdy beds, practical basic amenities, and the cozy wooden floor made us feel right at home from day one. No tedious tent setup—just arrive and relax. The covered porch was our absolute favorite spot—ideal for breakfast together in the morning or for unwinding in the evening once the kids were in bed.
A Paradise for the Grandkids
For the kids, the park was one big adventure land. Thanks to the manageable, safe, and well-maintained grounds, the grandchildren were able to let off steam and make new playmates. The swimming lake and the great play areas right on our doorstep ensured that there was never a dull moment during our two-week stay.
Perfect Location for Day Trips
The area around Westoverledingen also has a lot to offer. We took wonderful trips along the Ems dike and took advantage of the proximity to Leer and Papenburg for relaxing day trips. The combination of nature, tranquility, and recreational activities for the children made the 14 days fly by.
Conclusion
The Am Emsdeich Recreation Park comes highly recommended for a successful multigenerational vacation. In any case, we—including our granddaughter—were extremely satisfied. It’s quite likely we’ll book again.
