A very nice short vacation by the Great Sea
A great, very well-maintained place with lots to do (giant chess, pedal boats, boats, stand-up paddleboarding, etc.). Super clean restrooms. We'll be back.

A very nice campground and RV site

A Short Family Vacation
Nice new restroom facility. Peaceful atmosphere. That had to do with the weather. At 33 degrees, not a single tree or bush in sight. No relief from the heat at the lake because it’s so shallow, and the “swimming beach” is heavily contaminated with goose and duck droppings—not suitable for small children. The restroom facilities and organization are top-notch.

A Successful Break
A beautiful campground, in a wonderful location… everything you need is right there, fresh rolls from the bakery truck every morning…. The restrooms are clean and comfortable, and the size of the site is outstanding for me personally… I’ve rarely had so much space! I’d love to come back!
Next time, though, I’ll bring my bike, since the surrounding area is very spread out!

Perfect for relaxing.
The only downside is the dog poop that inconsiderate owners don’t clean up. The responsibility clearly doesn’t lie with the campground operators!!

Great Campground

Pure relaxation
Great campground. Perfect for biking. Beautifully located. The free use of the ferries is also a nice change of pace on the loop trail around the Großes Meer. I also highly recommend a bike trip to Emden along the Ems-Jade Canal.

A very nice campground—well-maintained and clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The campsites are nice and spacious. Our dog loved the dog beach with its water. We wish it were available across the entire peninsula again, as it used to be. A small store for quick shopping would also be nice to have on the campground. We’d love to come back.

excellent & clean spacious campsite

Complicated check-in process, no nice campsites, very basic restroom facilities at the front. Very strange shower fees.

The campground is way too expensive for what it offers!!!
The campground on the left feels more like a parking lot... because there are no boundaries except for a hedge in front of the vehicles, and there’s no water on the site. Heavier RVs aren’t even allowed to park there, despite the grass pavers....
The washhouse is ’90s-style and very basic.
To take a shower, I have to load money onto the card I get from the machine so I can take a hot shower,
which is then billed by the second...
We’re in the year 2026, aren’t we!?
Sorry, but we’re used to luxury and state-of-the-art facilities even at top-notch campsites.
The RV site is nothing more than a large paved parking lot.
Yes, the lake is pretty, but it’s not suitable for swimming... the water is dark brown.

It's always nice to come back home!
Hello!
I was born in Aurich. When I was a kid, we had a spot at the Great Sea for years. The last time I went camping at the Great Sea was when I was 15, with my friends. We’ve arranged to go camping there again with the same friends. It’s great to see how everything has developed, combined with such... wonderful memories. It’s a really beautiful place. Unfortunately, almost all the shops (kiosks, bistros, etc.) were closed the entire time I was there. That was a real shame.
But we’ll be back. 👍

A place to unwind
All in all, we felt right at home. Since my husband has trouble walking, I booked a spot pretty close to the washhouse. Unfortunately, there was a fence in the way, so we had to walk all the way around it to get to the restroom. It was doable, but still a bit of a bummer.
And we didn’t know the water... was so shallow… so you could barely swim properly.
Considering it’s a large recreational area, it was a wonderful, peaceful vacation.
We were warmly welcomed… and the self-checkout machine is very convenient. Check-in and check-out are hassle-free, partly because there’s plenty of space to park your trailer.

Short Vacation
We had a nice spot in the roundabout.
The restrooms were always clean.
It’s quiet and very friendly.

We missed having a small place to buy groceries.
We were really happy about the bread truck, but the bread could be of higher quality.

The path to the water was too long, according to the boat club. The railings at the water access points need to be renovated. The café and store are closed. There are hardly any places to eat in the entire “vacation area” because the restaurants are closed. The campground is very clean and beautifully laid out, but there are too many permanent campsites.

A really great campground... friendly staff at the front desk.
However, these days it would make sense to explicitly state that drones are prohibited—whether with signs or on the website—so that future conflicts with neighbors can be avoided 😄.
