"Vacation on the construction site - In 2019, the Esterhazy Foundation took back ownership of the Breitenbrunn lakeside resort and launched the "New Beach" project. Leaving aside the fact that once again a large landowner has to own Austrian natural property, one or two questions still arise. According to its own description, this facility is located in the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage Fertő-Neusiedler See. The flowery description includes keywords such as "resource-conserving", "harmonious" and "ecologically convincing". As a guest who knew the situation before the "concrete block", I would say exactly the opposite. The solution that has been visible so far is a seamless concrete sealing of a nature reserve. Practically nothing here is left in its natural state! The 11,000m2 of unsealing calculated by the developer and the gold certificate from the Austrian Sustainable Building Council (ÖGNI) for a "sustainable" venue are also very amusing! :) The area still under construction is a collection of containers, coupled with the locally popular use of copious amounts of concrete. However, efforts have also been made to place containers in previously undeveloped reed areas or to use building rubble for dusty gravel tracks. Podersdorf seems to be the role model here with its construction waste beach. What is supposed to be "sustainable", "regional" or "respectful in dealing with nature" is completely beyond my comprehension. Unfortunately, anyone who expects this much use of concrete to make the beach accessible to people with disabilities is also wrong here. Steps and fall-friendly buildings are all the rage. Guests should be able to enjoy the culinary offerings of the restaurant and grocery store in a "haven of peace". I can only think of one pair of words for both offerings that literally burn themselves into my brain after reading the menu: "Outrageously expensive"! That's what you get in the
