NEVER AGAIN: BÖRSMOSE CAMPING, DENMARK
Unfortunately, we had ONLY negative experiences at Börsmose Camping in Oksbøl, Denmark.
1. Denmark is supposed to have very good drinking water quality. After filling a jug with water at the dishwashing area, we noticed a brownish tint. When we inquired, we were assured that they would look into it.... We never heard anything about the results of that investigation.
2. The campground rules stipulate a MINIMUM DISTANCE of 3 meters between camping vehicles for fire safety reasons. Since one of our neighbors wasn’t adhering to this rule, we asked about it at the front desk. The response was that this had to be tolerated during peak season. This implies that the more crowded the campground is and the higher the fire risk, the less strictly the fire safety rules need to be followed.
3. We had booked 14 nights but had to leave one day early due to unforeseen personal circumstances. After consulting with the manager by phone, the staff member told us there would be no refund, but we were offered a voucher for the corresponding amount, valid until the end of the season. We were told to send an email to receive the voucher. No sooner said than done, but the campground’s response was that they do not issue vouchers and that it must have been a misunderstanding due to language barriers—after all, German is not the staff’s native language. Our three points of contact spoke excellent German, and there were absolutely no misunderstandings.

This is no way to treat guests, but apparently they get away with it because of the campground’s popular location. In any case, we found the prices to be overpriced, the restrooms outdated and, at certain times, quite dirty, and the water quality potentially questionable.

Campsite in the dunes
We stayed at the campsite for 4 days in mid-July. Interesting nature CP in the dunes. Everyone can choose a pitch. Probably none of them are really flat, but the quality lies elsewhere. The peace and quiet, from relatively secluded to communal, the proximity to the wide beach, only shielded by higher... dunes. Hiking and cycling are possible from the site. We enjoyed our stay. The only downside was the sanitary building. The family shower rooms with toilets are nice for families, but only two additional toilets are often not enough. But that only seems to be the case in this central sanitary building. We liked it here and will be back.

Positive ting
- great, wide beach - shallow water - beautiful, peaceful landscape of dunes, heathland and small forests - good hiking/cycling trails
Negative ting
- Outdated sanitary facilities - Inadequate cleaning - high price for the fact that nothing is offered
beautiful landscape, great beach, outdated and overpriced place
The nature campsite is located in the middle of a nature reserve and on the edge of the Danish military training area. Noise pollution and road closures may occur during military exercises. The site blends into the dune landscape and is not parceled out. Only an approximately 300 meter wide strip of... dunes separates the site from the car-free part of the beach. A beach accessible by car is right next to the campsite. The German-speaking reception staff were very friendly. It was not possible to make a reservation, but there was plenty of space even during the summer vacation. However, as there are no pitches, you have to spend a lot of time looking for a place to set up camp. Due to the dune landscape, the ground is uneven and, if you are unlucky, you will need leveling wedges. You also have to make sure that the nearest electricity box is not too far away. Caravanners with a built-in water tank will need a watering can to fill the tank, as there are only water points at the sanitary buildings and at irregular intervals along the main paths. The site is not suitable for large motorhomes, which cost as much as a house. It could also be difficult to find a suitable pitch for extremely long caravans There is a small store next to the reception where you can buy fresh bread and rolls, as well as German newspapers. However, the bread rolls sell out quickly. We did not ask whether it is possible to order in advance. White bread is usually available until lunchtime. The store only has a small selection of groceries. You have to drive about 15 minutes to the next town for proper shopping. There is also a snack bar, but it is only open in the high season. Near the entrance there is a building with two kitchens, washing machine, dryer, ironing board and a lounge. This is equipped with a fireplace and a TV. I could not turn on the TV without the remote control. This was missing. Just like the TV in the lounge of sanitary building 2. Diagonally opposite is sanitary building 1, which is the largest of the three on the site and around 25 years old. Because of its "timeless" design in white and gray, it doesn't seem daunting at first glance. However, it is in need of renovation. The 2nd sanitary building was only recently renovated and is the nicest building. However, apart from a lounge with TV and kitchen, there are only 5 family washrooms (toilet, washbasin and shower in one room). So you have to expect that everything will be occupied in the morning and evening at peak washing time. Next to sanitary building 2 is a covered outdoor seating area with tables and benches and two barbecues. There is also a playground. We stood near sanitary building 3, which is about 30-40 years old and looks it! In addition to the obligatory toilets and wash/shower facilities separated for men and women, there are two family washrooms and a kitchen. From my point of view, sanitary building 3 is just awful. It is completely outdated. The men's room smelled like a highway toilet and was always dirty because it was only cleaned once a day. The single-ply toilet paper is not very tear-resistant. The toilet paper is also only provided for drying hands, but this does not work at all. As a result, there are lots of small pieces of paper on the floor. The showers only work with a shower token (8 crowns or 1.11 euros for 5 minutes). The water comes out of a fixed pipe from the ceiling. The shower head and the water pressure of the hot water cannot be adjusted. There is only one tap for cold water so that you can set the right temperature. As soon as you insert the shower coin, hot water comes on and runs until the time is up. You can't turn it off in between to soap up. As soon as the water is running, you have to try to reach around the hot jet to turn on the cold water until the desired temperature is set. In one shower, after inserting a coin, you had to hit it several times until the water was activated. Unfortunately, there are no individual wash cubicles for privacy in any of the sanitary buildings. The washbasins are separated by walls, but there are no doors or curtains. The washbasins also have no plugs. In the kitchen, several hotplates (gas and ceramic) did not work or only partially worked. The dishwashing sinks also have no plugs. So you have to take a wash bowl with you. There is also a playground next to sanitary building 3. The play equipment is in good condition, but almost only for older children. There are swings only in sanitary building 2, otherwise the play equipment consists mainly of climbing nets. There is no slide or similar. There are bouncy cushions at sanitary buildings 1 and 2. If you want to spend a vacation close to nature and enjoy a beautiful, uncrowded beach, this is the right place for you, provided you have modest expectations of comfort. Otherwise, the site has nothing to offer and is quite expensive. The sanitary buildings in particular are a reason for me not to spend my main vacation there. The cleanliness was just about tolerable for me. It's bearable for a long weekend if you know what you're getting into and can adjust to it. I would then place myself between sanitary building 1 and 2. I noticed that there was a lot of coming and going on the campsite. Many guests only stayed for 3-4 days. Whether they moved on because they didn't like it would be speculation. :-) Price example for a family of four with electricity without shower in high season per night: 377 crowns (52.36 euros). Of this, 35 crowns (4.87 euros) is for electricity. I have heard that this state-run campsite was recently sold to a private investor. It is therefore to be hoped that investments will finally be made and the situation in the sanitary buildings will improve.

Positive ting
Great place with free choice of pitches, great beach, endless nature
Negative ting
Almost nothing is offered on the pitch . Expensive . Moderate sanitary facilities
Beautiful, simple CP, magnificent nature (beach) ...unfortunately nothing more
A great campsite with free choice of pitches in the dunes, a fantastic sandy beach and lots of opportunities for activities outside the campsite. Those who want to disperse on the campsite will be very disappointed. A small supermarket , a bouncy castle for the little ones ... that's it . If you want... peace and quiet, are a purist or nature lover, you will get your money's worth. The sanitary facilities are clean and tidy, but some of them are quite old. A few years ago a wash house was renovated (wash house 2), but it was not planned at all. The owner is the Danish state , the tenant may not make any changes or even construction work . The prices are quite high for what is on offer on the site, but you are only compensated by the magnificent natural surroundings.

Friendliness, tranquillity, a great beach and fantastic scenery.

super beach
We stayed here for the first time this year and didn't regret it. The reception is very friendly and German-speaking. The size of the site simply amazes you. There are no pitches and you can stand wherever you want. The mini-market at the reception offers the essentials, but if you want something special... you should stock up in advance, as the nearest town is about 10 km away. You can get to the beach from many places on the campsite. Even in the high season there is enough space without feeling cramped. The sanitary facilities are a bit dated, but always clean, although I find the coin-operated showers a bit outdated. If you are looking for peace, beautiful surroundings and friendliness, this is the place for you.

Those seeking peace and quiet
I have known this place for 48 years. I always enjoy going there. But I find that it is getting more and more expensive from year to year and in recent years not much has been renewed on the site or new activities have been added, e.g. for the children, but the landscape and the peace are great and the site is not ADAC parceled out, that is still camping!!!

Bathhouses 1+3
Super location on a dream beach
Wonderfully located campsite on one of the best beaches I know. Very beautiful grounds in the dunes, where you can pitch very generously and always have space to your neighbors. The sanitary facilities are clean but only average. Only bathhouse 2 is more modern, but too small and therefore always overcrowded... with long queues. The small store is a bit carelessly run, but there are fresh bread rolls and cakes every day. An ideal place for rest and relaxation on the wonderful beach

Very spacious.
Very spacious campsite
The campsite is very large and spacious. No direct neighbors, especially in the low season. Personally, it's already too big for me. Long distances to the sanitary facilities and cooking facilities. The military exercises, which were always audible, were sometimes disturbing. The sanitary facilities were in top condition!

great beach, great CP in the middle of the dunes
Negative ting
Sänitär and CP perhaps a little off the beaten track
3 ⭐️und a weak + ..there is still room for improvement here!
...I'm a bit torn and try not to throw around 5* here as emotionally charged as many of the previous reviewers, because as far as I know this is only a 3* site! So positive: a well-stocked mini-market, German-speaking reception, free choice of pitches in a very beautiful dune area, electricity and water... always nearby (50m), about 150m walk over the large main dune and you are standing on a wonderful endless sandy beach. Some of the sanitary buildings have covered barbecue areas and TV rooms with a guest kitchen. Negatives: ...these lounges are often used by party people, the number of showers and toilets is completely inadequate ...there were regular queues in the mornings and evenings. You can imagine what this facility looks like after such a rush. Soap dispenser always empty, no possibility to dry hands and toilet paper is not always sufficiently available. Coin-operated showers and no wifi on the pitch

Very nice campsite
We have now been to this beautiful place several times. Last year twice by motorcycle and tent. Last year with a car and tent. Now we have been there from 28.04 to 02.05.17 with the caravan! This place is simply brilliant, there is a free choice of pitches. The operators are very nice people, polite... and courteous. Bread rolls can be ordered for breakfast. The sanitary facilities are OK. If you are looking for peace and relaxation, this is definitely the right place!

Great place in the middle of the dunes
The campsite is located in the middle of the dunes, with free choice of pitches. The sanitary facilities are somewhat scattered, but tidy. Access to the beach is directly through the dunes. A great place and we would come again any time.

Rest and relaxation
There are no fixed pitches, you just park where you like, the sanitary facilities were always clean. The beach is only a few meters away through the dunes. You can reach the surrounding places quite quickly by bike. The beach was almost empty at the end of June pure relaxation. we recommend a fairly... long power cable as the connections are quite far apart. There is also a small supermarket. Since we were there as a couple I can only say that there are some possibilities to play. A trout pond is not far away

A wonderful campsite to relax and unwind.
This year was the first time we stayed at this campsite for a longer period of time with the Fang. It was pure relaxation for me and my wife. We used the many hiking trails with our dog to go for long walks. The nearest seaside resorts can be reached relatively quickly by car and we will probably opt for a seasonal site next year. The owner and his wife are very friendly and helpful.
