Camping—or is it already a little adventure?
Right from the moment you arrive, it’s clear: camping is obviously understood a little differently here. After passing the reception—a small, rather unassuming cabin—you head across the sand and into the forest. And by then, at the latest, you find yourself thinking, “All right, let’s see what’s in store.”... 😄

And that’s actually the beauty of this place. No precisely marked-out plots, no rows of RVs, and no neighbor standing there with a folding ruler to explain exactly where the property line runs. Here, you’re free to choose your spot—you just set up wherever there happens to be an open spot.

Camping in the middle of the forest definitely has its own unique charm. Waking up in the morning and looking straight at trees instead of the nearest row of RVs is something special. For us, it was actually the most exciting and extraordinary campground on our trip.

However, the romance of the forest also comes with a bit of a treasure hunt: you have to search for electricity and water as well. So if you like having everything right next to your RV, your patience will likely be put to the test here. 😄

The restroom facilities are located at the edge of the forest. They’re not exactly state-of-the-art, and there’s definitely room for improvement. Overall, though, they were clean, and the hot water was free—which, after all, always makes a camper happy.

For the kids, the playground was a real highlight. And spending the night in the middle of the forest was an experience for the whole family. Here, the focus is clearly on the feeling of nature and adventure, rather than perfectly organized camping comforts.

Our verdict: The Outdoor Schmiede was the most exciting spot of our trip so far. It’s certainly not for everyone, and those looking for luxury, designated sites, and easy access to electricity and water might not be happy here. But if you’re in the mood for real camping, nature, and a little bit of adventure, you should definitely check this place out.

The site has nice quiet pitches, a tree population that provides shade. Free choice of pitch is always dependent on the fact that everyone sets up in a space-saving manner!!!
Negatiivsed
Toilets are too few, showers very small but everything clean and well maintained! The restaurant seems to serve good food, but without pre-ordering there is nothing to do!!! Even if tables are empty for more than 45 minutes you are not allowed to sit down!!! We were sent away with two people... Although two tables with two and three chairs were empty and were not occupied again within the next 45 minutes. No idea if they don't need it!!!

All in all, it's a beautiful place that offers peace and relaxation. I think it's just right for canoeists, as the Ilmenau is perfect for them. Otherwise there is little or nothing going on here.
