A really nice campground located pretty much in the middle of Sylt.
Negatiivsed
During heavy rain, large puddles form on some trails and campsites, but these usually disappear quickly.
Beautiful Campground
This campground has earned its 4-star rating; many comfort sites have now been set up near the large restroom building.
From check-in through our entire stay, the campground staff was always friendly and accommodating; all the restroom facilities on the campground were always clean, and I find the card-based... payment system for the showers, washers, etc., to be very fair.
There’s also a mini-market at the entrance where you can find fresh bread rolls and camping essentials. There’s also a Thai restaurant from a well-known chain in the main building where we had a good, affordable meal.

Very nice location between Rantum basin and dune with a short walk to the beach.
Negatiivsed
From dusk onwards, lots of mosquitoes and unruly dog owners.
Beautifully situated campsite with dogs and mosquitoes
The site is located directly on the Rantum basin with a beautiful view of it. Once you cross the road (with traffic lights), you are at the dune, which leads to the wonderful beach with DLRG supervision and a beach sauna for an extra charge.

The disadvantage of the location at the Rantum basin, which... should be largely stagnant brackish water, is that it is a wonderful breeding ground for mosquitoes. Depending on the wind, these little creatures are driven over or away from the campsite from dusk onwards. When the days are unfavorable, you can't stay outside without autan and long clothing.

The site itself is very nicely done, with a beautiful modern wash house as well as a somewhat older one. Depending on the pitch location, the pitches are also nicely parceled out with direct water and waste water connections depending on the category. A large playground on site, as well as a large store with fresh bread rolls and a sushi restaurant.

It is clear that the site was also for dog owners and I am aware of what I am letting myself in for. But if, contrary to the site rules, very large dogs are allowed to run free and roam around your own pitch, it's no fun with children. Especially if they are unruly neighbors who also don't understand why keeping them on a leash might make sense.

Enjoyed a great stay
This was our fifth time on this pitch and this time we had the best weather. The XL pitch was really very large, and most of the time we also had a rental bathroom. The pitch was always well maintained and very clean, and the rental bathroom was also cleaned daily. Although the weather was rather poor... before we arrived, the pitches were not under water. The restaurant on site is also highly recommended! The goodwill in the event of early departure was fantastic. Many thanks for the wonderful time on Sylt!

Pitch has good layout, wash houses always clean, staff committed and helpful.
Negatiivsed
Due to years of use and now compacted soil, some places do not absorb rainwater, no drainage.
Favorite spot in summer - unfortunately only when the weather is nice
After a great experience in 2023, we were literally flooded in 2024! It wasn't the constant storms and rain that were annoying, but the lack of drainage on the pitch. We had a large comfort pitch right next to the wash house. Although we had a waste water connection on the pitch, there was no further... drainage connected to it. The ground is so compacted from regular use on the same pitch (center) with caravan and awning that it forms a hollow, but no longer absorbs or drains water. Side pitches with large mobile homes were completely under water. The helpfulness of the staff (with a replacement pump, tank for pumping up and sand for draining) was commendable, but only solved the problem for the moment. Of course, all the neighbors were helpfully involved, but the drink was not on the house.

The sanitary facilities could do with a bit more cleanliness when you shower early in the morning (around 6.30am) and the toilets were not cleaned. At the reception you were addressed as if you were a small child
Actually a very nice campsite

We were in the front row. It was incredibly loud due to the large number of children. A gang of at least 20 children rode their bikes right through the main path. It got a bit quieter around 22:00. No sign of the groundsman. So we didn't have a nice evening. Even a complaint didn't really help!

Hello Gerlinde K.,
Thank you for taking the time to rate our campsite.
Our night service does its rounds regularly. We currently have no complaints about the situation you describe.
Certainly, everyone perceives children's noises differently. Even when groups are formed, it can be louder than in an allotment... garden. We always recommend contacting the night service at night (you will receive the number at check-in) so that every guest can get a good night's sleep.

If you keep saying to yourself "after all, we're on Sylt", then it goes...
2 weeks on Sylt in July - wonderful. That was the anticipation, but the reality was not so wonderful.
We were there in high season with our 2 children (4 and 7 years old). The page advertised children's entertainment, but there was none because of Corona (we would have liked to have had this information... in advance). The swings on the very simple and unkempt playground were taken down. They are said to have broken recently and will be replaced soon. We didn't see a swing for two weeks. Our children found the playground boring and I could understand them very well. Our older son found buddies and practiced bike tricks, our younger daughter had to be entertained by us every minute, as there were no areas in the playground where she could find children of the same age. The playground is right next to a busy road. Behind the road is a steep dune path to the beach. The route is long and it is not possible for children to go there alone because of the road. There were also a lot of dogs on the site. Basically not a problem, but there was a lack of opportunities to walk the dog nearby. I often saw dogs doing their business in the playground or peeing there. The dog owners of course cleaned up the poop, but when you see children picnicking in these places a little later, it's not so great. There is a modern sanitary building, which was also clean. The outbuildings were neglected. On the third day I asked if the spiders could be removed, which happened quickly, but only once. The place is booked a lot, we paid about 50 euros per night as a family - for a vacation on Sylt, incredibly cheap. Our impression was that the operators were resting on their laurels and putting little passion into the design of the site. A great pity. We somehow had a nice time, but won't be coming back here again

Hello Cornelia S.,
Thank you for taking the time to rate our campsite!
First of all, the children's entertainment was unfortunately canceled due to the pandemic. The regulations in force in 2021 would not have made normal play operations possible, so the organizers decided to cancel the program.
Our... playground equipment is checked for function and safety twice a year by trained specialists. During the inspection, it was discovered that the head beam of the swing no longer met the prescribed safety standards. Replacement parts were ordered immediately. However, due to the delivery delays caused by Corona, these were not delivered until April 2022.
Dogs are generally not allowed in the playground and we take great care to ensure that this is adhered to. Theoretically, there is also enough space in the immediate vicinity to walk the dog. We always appreciate it when such sightings are reported directly to reception - then they can be dealt with immediately.
Unfortunately, the sanitary buildings were not completely renovated until winter 2021/2022, partly due to the pandemic.
We hope that we can convince you with positive impressions on your next visit and would be pleased to welcome you back to the campsite in the future.

- Poor hygiene in the wash houses - Overpriced service charges
That was not Sylt!
On a positive note, the staff were friendly. The main wash house is also positively remembered and of course the location.

Cleanliness and hygiene leave a lot to be desired. In high season, the wash houses are only cleaned once a day - which is definitely not enough. Some toilet seats were damaged and... covered in feces ... unacceptable. The decentralized wash houses were full of cobwebs. Even after complaining to reception there was no significant improvement.

The playground was a disappointment. Defective swings were not repaired and the advertised children's entertainment was completely absent.

Hello Ulrich W,
Thank you for your review of Camingplatz Rantum, to which we would like to respond.

Sylt away from the hustle and bustle
Actually a beautifully situated site on the Rantum basin (mudflats side). However, the standard pitches for short-term campers are unprotected from the wind, narrow and poorly marked. The central sanitary building (the only one with showers) deserves a positive mention: spacious, modern, clean, simply... exemplary. The bakery at the reception has a decent selection of bread and rolls; otherwise, a trip to Westerland or Tinnum is recommended for a decent supply of food. The staff at reception are professional and friendly.

Hello Manfred,

Thank you for your review of our campsite.

The pitches you mentioned for short-term campers are most likely our 20 motorhome pitches, which are located in the outer area and are often booked for spontaneous and short stays.

In addition to these and the 200 seasonal pitches, there are... also 200 pitches ranging in size from 75 m² to 120 m².

Due to the high demand, it is always advisable to book your preferred pitch in advance.

The fee-based W-LAN is staggered according to usage time. However, we also offer tickets valid for longer periods, which are always cheaper per day.

In order to enable every guest to surf the Internet at high speed, we do not offer open Wi-Fi due to the large number of Internet-enabled devices.

Thank you for highlighting our recently renovated and modernized sanitary building.

We have gladly taken your praise on board and passed it on to the relevant colleagues.

We would be delighted to welcome you again in the future.

Best regards! Your Camping Rantum Team

The site is well maintained, the pitches are large and equipped with electricity, water supply and drainage. There is no parcelling out. Sanitary facilities are cleaned regularly and are in good condition. If there is anything to complain about, it is down to the users, not the cleaning service (as always).

Sun, rain and storm - the course is perfect in any weather!
It was our first time on Sylt and we had an all-round great vacation at Rantumbecken. From the welcome to the farewell, everything was perfect here on the site. The cleanliness of the sanitary facilities is impressive, something you don't often experience. The small camping store and especially the Tyrolean parlors make the experience perfect. The plaice with fried potatoes was a poem and better than at Blum or Gosch!

Classics, even for the not-so-rich and beautiful
One of our favorite campsites. The site is clean, as are the sanitary facilities. Only the waterless urinals are a blessing for some and a curse for others. The typical smell remains. But only in the men's toilet room. The toilet flush takes some getting used to, the button has to be pushed in very deeply... and a lot of effort is required. The adjacent camping store has everything you need for spontaneous purchases or additional purchases. Friendly and helpful. The camping supermarket also has everything you need to survive several days without going into town. The prices are always reasonable. We love coming here. You should definitely visit the Bonscherei. Just walk through the campsite towards the harbor, on the right side there is a small store with sweets BUT the best soft ice cream we have eaten so far.

Almost perfect, but...
I stopped here with my roof tent in the last week of August 2018 - without my wife, who unfortunately had to go back to work. The first day was characterized by torrential rain with wind forces around 10, so I didn't set up the tent at all. But the site can't do anything about the weather, there are... probably a few sheltered niches there, but there could certainly be more. Almost the entire site is open plans, so the usual north-westerly wind has an easy time of it here. Lots of garbage in the bushes on my pitch: plastic waste, cans etc. On the pitch 2 remaining pegs as a tripping hazard and lots of cigarette butts. It doesn't have to be like this, isn't there anyone who notices? I was all the more pleasantly surprised by the state of the sanitary facilities, high standard, very well maintained and clean. Want to get a quick beer or snack in the evening? Unfortunately, there was no kiosk. But there was a bakery with good bread rolls in the morning. Wellness and spa within walking distance in the village hotel. The beautiful west beach is 10 minutes away. Overall a nice place with unfortunately a bit noisy street right next to it. Lady at the counter on departure unfortunately a bit grumpy, eye contact was avoided, no inquiry as to whether it has pleased. This is a shame and should be improved.

Great vacation in May 2018
We were at Camping Rantum from May 15-30. Thanks to the great weather we had a great vacation. Camping Rantum is a very nice location on Sylt, prices are absolutely reasonable. The location is perfect - directly behind the dune (approx. 250m to the water). The bus stop in front of the campsite is also... ideal. The cycle path also goes directly past the campsite, but is sometimes very busy (not ideal with children, but okay). The swimming pool of the neighboring village hotel can also be used for a fee. On the campsite are the Tiroler Stuben (food okay) and in the village hotel there is an Italian restaurant. There are various restaurants in Rantum, a 20-30 minute walk away. The beach is simply beautiful. The sanitary buildings are very well maintained and I found them to be clean. The children's area is very practical. We also made extensive use of the cooking/dishwashing facilities. There is a lounge on the second floor. The bakery offers good quality, but the rest of the range is very limited. Our conclusion: A great vacation and we would love to come back!

Bad smell in the ladies' toilet, poor and narrow pitches. If it rains for a longer period of time, the site dries out!
Vacation in autumn.
Staff nice and helpful. Sanitary house very modern. Some pitches with water, waste water and electricity directly on the pitch. Bakery, restaurant and shopping facilities available. All around the campsite was fine. The pitches have no drainage, are uneven and are not maintained. After 1 day of rain... we stood in puddles and mud, even on the so-called comfort pitches. Something urgently needs to happen here. After 4 days of continuous rain, we ended our vacation 2 days early. Along the lake side, the path is probably public, which is often used by cyclists and pedestrians. 3 stars due to the poor pitches.

Disappointment
I spent four weeks at this campsite in Aug / Sept 2017 and have to say that the pitches were the worst I've found in 50 years of camping. The pitches have no drainage, are uneven and are not maintained. After a moderate rain you stand in puddles and mud, even on the so-called comfort pitches. The groundsman... shows no interest in this. The wash houses are clean; the main building is up to modern standards. The site is only really habitable in good weather. If it wasn't on Sylt, this campsite would no longer exist.

Dear guest,

Unfortunately, it rained well above average in the period before and during your stay. The ground was very soggy and saturated with water. Unfortunately, we have to disagree with you about the lack of drainage. The problem is that when the ground is completely saturated, the drainage system... can no longer absorb water.

We are astonished to hear you say that our campsite is the worst you have experienced in 50 years of camping. You spent four weeks on vacation with us. Our site certainly doesn't look as well-kept at the end of the season as it does at the beginning, but we still look after it.
If the weather doesn't allow it and it has rained a lot, we don't drive around the site with our lawnmower on the first dry day so that we don't disturb our guests when they can finally sit outside again.

We are sorry that one of our colleagues has given you the impression of disinterest. As the conditions during your stay were not ideal, we have charged you a much cheaper pitch, as you will have noticed.

"If it wasn't on Sylt, it would no longer exist" We would like to contradict this assessment. The large number of positive reviews on this and other portals simply refutes this statement.

However, we find it a pity that you wrote us a bad review and did not seek a conversation with the campsite management during the four weeks you were here.

Perhaps you will give us another chance and visit us again.
