" - "Le Paluet" is a campsite in the French "Flower Campings" chain, where you can actually feel at home anywhere in the country and which generally deserves a recommendation at this point. It is located 35 kilometers west of Macon and the A6, the Autoroute du Soleil. Strictly speaking, we are in the heart of Burgundy, at a fairly high altitude and quite far away from larger centers. The journey, no matter which direction you come from, takes you up and down through the hills of Bourgogne, sometimes with sharp bends and through remote mountain villages where time almost seems to have stood still. The small town of Matour lies like an oasis in this area and offers a relatively complete, albeit small (but fine) infrastructure in addition to the campsite and the adjacent outdoor pool. There are two or three cafés and pubs, a very good bakery and an 8 à Huit, where fresh produce and vegetables are available until the evening. These stores can be reached on foot from the square in ten minutes, by bike in three minutes and are located on the market square in the town center - you can't miss it. There is no infrastructure on the square itself, there is no store or anything similar. The adjacent swimming pool is a piscine municipal, to which campers are admitted free of charge. On hot summer days, of course, the whole village gathers there, so it can sometimes get very crowded. Nevertheless, the staff always remain friendly and courteous, which also applies to the site management - during our visit in summer 2013, the management was still in the hands of Rob, a very amiable but slightly rushed Dutchman who also spoke fluent German and French and took care of all the concerns of guests young and old in a dedicated manner. The 2014 catalog shows that the management has changed, so there is still no experience in this regard. The site itself was fully booked in August, but Rob, never at a loss for a quick idea, offered a pitch on the soccer pitch adjacent to the site to ensure that guests had not come in vain. And indeed, over the course of the four-day visit, a small group of campers, caravanners and motorhome drivers established themselves on the edge of the soccer pitch right next to the fence in order to get the last bit of shade from the campsite woodland. We had electricity from Rob's garage... that was pure camper-like flexibility. The sanitary facilities were always clean and well maintained, the facilities in the front part below the reception and bar building are older. Showers and the like are included in the price here (as almost everywhere in France). There are only a few play options for children - the main attraction for all young and half-grown children is the swimming pool. The surrounding area doesn't really have much to offer apart from "the area". You can go for a walk in the Bourgogne, perhaps discover one or two buildings or ruins from past centuries, but don't expect anything sensational. A small detail for orientation: the nearest large supermarket (an Intermarché) is 27 kilometers away in Chauffailles, which takes over half an hour to get to (narrow, winding mountain roads, on which you sometimes have to wait in oncoming traffic). This perhaps vividly illustrates that Matour is quite remote, albeit beautiful, wild, almost romantic. And the important things for local supplies are there, so the place is definitely recommended; certainly not for two weeks, but for a few days.
