Camping du Lac is a small campsite located near the village of Villegusien-le-lac. It is located between Langres, an ancient fortified town, and Dijon, close to the A31, which leads south to the Autoroute du Soleil. Right next to the square is the Lac de la Vingeanne with the old water tower that gave... the square its name. It is a reservoir that serves as a water reservoir and for local recreation - walking is permitted, but swimming is not. The campsite itself has a decades-long history and served as a stopover for many campers passing through in the seventies and eighties, for example when their destination was Brittany, Bordeaux or the Mediterranean on the south coast. At that time, the reception was still located in the shadow of the water tower in a small wooden hut, in the middle of the site was the still existing sanitary building with one (!) sitting and one standing toilet each for men and women. Somehow that was enough, even though today a large new building has been constructed at the lower end of the square to house a spacious reception with a bread counter, social rooms (also for children) and sanitary facilities. The entrance has also been moved there. If you arrive at lunchtime or late in the evening, you can look for a pitch yourself and report to reception, which is staffed in a very friendly manner, and there are pitches in both sunny and semi-shady areas and almost completely shaded, depending on your preferences. There is even a small pool, as has been retrofitted on many small sites over the last decade. Of course, it is hardly possible to swim more than three strokes there, but the opportunity to cool off and refresh yourself in hot summers like 2013 is very pleasant. Although the new sanitary facilities are attractive in themselves, they are unfortunately not maintained consistently enough, which is a shame. The facilities, which are clearly only a few years old, are already showing signs of decay, with some of the windows broken and showers with miserable shower hoses hanging around - they should have used the in-wall pipe standard during construction. There is also a slight lack of cleanliness, with only half-hearted cleaning; of the already sparse sinks (three in number), only two were usable in summer '13, as a simple drainage problem could not be solved. Poor hygiene was always a problem there too, so people were reluctant to clean their dishes with a clear conscience. In view of the recently built facilities, this is regrettable overall, as a completely different standard could easily be achieved with a little more staff. However, you can accept this for a night in transit, especially as the site is very cheap (it always has been - in 1986 you paid FF 8.20 per adult). You can then use the afternoon to either visit Langres - 15 km to the north - (extremely worthwhile) or to complete the "Tour de Lac de la Vingeanne", either on foot or by bike. This is a very natural, beautiful circular route through the Bourgogne countryside that begins here. I have captured some impressions from the summer of 2013 in pictures. You may also pass through the village of Villegusien or stop by the supermarket three kilometers away to buy some vegetables or barbecue meat for the evening. The site itself is in a quiet location and conveniently located for the A31 - if you make the small concession regarding the aforementioned shortcomings, you will be rewarded with a very reasonable overnight stay and a few hours in beautiful nature.
