* The water is only partially visible due to heavy undergrowth * Unfortunately, the swimming lake is not open for swimming * The restroom facilities could be much cleaner and better maintained * Parts of the campground look quite worn out * Overall, there is a clear need for renovation and maintenance * Power outlets aren’t always easy to find—it’s part of the fun to go on a little “power outlet scavenger hunt” 😄 * No designated sites, which makes it a bit confusing in some areas
Pure nature, complete with little surprises
The campground is in a really beautiful spot along a flowing body of water. At least in theory—because nature has apparently decided to throw in a little “privacy screen” between the campground and the water. Lots of underbrush means you can only catch a glimpse of the water from a few select prime spots.... 😄

As for the swimming lake: It certainly looks quite nice, but we weren’t able to take a dip in the cool water. Unfortunately, swimming wasn’t an option. So we had to settle for looking instead of jumping in—which is also a form of water sports.

As far as cleanliness goes, the restrooms were more in the “could use some work” category. With relatively little effort, they could be improved quite a bit. On the plus side: the hot water was free—so at least while showering, you could relax and enjoy not having to pay for the heat as well. 😉

When it comes to the campsites, however, there’s maximum freedom: no fixed plots, no white lines, and apparently no grand plan either. Just find a nice spot, park your trailer, and you’re all set. However, if you want electricity, you’ll need to spot an electrical outlet first—those little gray boxes are practically the campground’s treasure chests. If you find one, you’ve won. 😂

You can tell, though, that the campground has a few camping seasons under its belt. In some places, everything looks pretty worn out. Yet, in our opinion, the campground really has a lot of potential. The waterfront location, the freedom to choose your spot, and the natural surroundings could really shine with a little maintenance and a refresh.

A big plus was the staff: Everyone was very friendly and helpful—and as we all know, that makes a big difference. 👍

All in all, it’s an uncomplicated, nature-oriented campground with a great foundation, but also plenty of room for improvement.

The lawn could have used a mowing, but I can overlook that. Other than that, there's nothing to complain about.
Porstendorf Campground
The campground is absolutely idyllic and highly recommended.
We were the only ones there, except for a few other campers.
There’s a lake for swimming, and the restrooms are very well maintained.
You can rent SUPs, and there’s also a beer garden right on the water that’s worth checking out.
We had a great time and can wholeheartedly recommend this campground.

Idyllic, but very outdated
The site is very quiet and idyllic, trees, hedges, flowing water, a lake with pedal boat hire, the owner is friendly, as are the reception and the groundsman. The potential for a great place is absolutely there. Unfortunately, other essential things are missing: The sanitary facilities are outdated and... unkempt, cobwebs on the windows, dead flies on the windowsill, the shower water only gets lukewarm, there are no towels or paper towels at the washbasins. It was not possible to dispose of the gray water, the corresponding place overflows if you try. There was no corresponding notice. The groundsman came running up quickly and pointed out the defect to me when he saw me starting to empty my tank. It was very clear that the site was obviously only managed instead of invested in. The pitch was ok for 2 nights, priced at €25 per night for 2 people including vehicle and electricity. For several days or a vacation, I'd rather pay €10 more and have a clean, modern and functioning infrastructure.

Again and again with pleasure
As described above, we love this campsite. We come to the Rabeninsel campsite at least three times a year. The unparceled pitches are very spacious and sunny or shady, depending on your preference. Simply ideal. The lake is perfect for swimming or pedal boating. The ideal starting point for great cycling tours. However, we are not luxury campers. Cleanliness and being close to nature are more important to us.

Would have potential if ....
The campsite's location is actually well suited for exploring Jena and the surrounding area, or for canoeing on the Saale.
The site in general can be described in a few words as outdated and run-down. The operator(s) seem to make an effort to repair defects, which can be seen in many places. Unfortunately,... these repairs do not appear to have been carried out by qualified personnel. The idea of using side entrance doors as shower doors is nice, but they don't lock properly. Drilling holes in frames for a locking mechanism is unfortunately not professional. There are neither towel dispensers nor fans in the ladies' toilets. The toilet seats have been visibly worn since last year. The wooden core is already showing through in various places.
The power socket cover is missing in the men's washrooms!
It could be a nice campsite if investments were made in modern standards.

The owners/tenants give the impression that they don't need any more guests because of their wealth.
Pre-inspection
If you like prohibition signs, video surveillance and - even after the explanation of our visit today (namely getting to know the local conditions) - an extremely dismissive and unfriendly operator with a Dutch accent, this is certainly the place for you. Unfortunately, I realized that I would not visit this place again, despite its excellent location. Thank you for this lesson BEFORE a real visit!

Always a pleasure
As we attach great importance to peace and nature, we always enjoy going to this campsite.
The manager is always there for us and reserves our favorite spot. The toilets are always clean and the grounds are well maintained. We are glad that this campsite exists. We wouldn't want to be without it.

Escaping the big city
We decided to spend two days here at short notice. The operators are very friendly and the place is very pleasant. It may not be state-of-the-art, but the price-performance ratio is good. The snack bar has a good selection, from smoked fish to currywurst. There is a small playground for children on the grounds and one at the bathing lake. Our dog also felt very comfortable and we would all love to come back.

Informal and relaxing
We (a couple with a dog) stayed at the campsite for three nights over Whitsun. The site is small and manageable. Pitches are not parceled out with electricity but no water connection. Free choice of pitch. The reception was friendly. There was not really a reception. The entire facility is already quite... outdated and there is still a lot to do here. The sanitary facilities at the front of the site were functional and OK. Shower cubicles not too narrow and hand showers. The sanitary facilities at the back of the site are housed in containers and really take some getting used to. The atmosphere on the pitch was good. Very informal and nice people. All in all, simple but somehow also cozy. We and our furry friend felt at home.

We had a Finnhütte and the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The gage window had 1 cm of space at the bottom, so what use is it then. We were very happy that we had our own bed linen. The food in the restaurant on the pitch was good.

Small, manageable and quiet campsite. Ideal for relaxing for a few days. The family who run the campsite make every effort to satisfy their guests and keep the campsite clean and tidy. Of course, not everything is perfect, but if you are looking for luxury or the like, you have to go to a hotel, it's just a campsite. Excellent for small children as they can't run off as the site is surrounded by water.

A fantastic summer weekend in April 2018
No, the fantastic weather on this weekend should by no means be part of our review, but it was of course a lucky coincidence that we were there on this summer weekend. Even the telephone contact was very positive. We were told in a pleasant Dutch dialect that we would be very welcome. First plus point!... We received a very warm welcome on site. Registration was very quick and unbureaucratic. We were able to enjoy the wonderful humor of the cheerful, sociable Dutch host. A nation that knows a thing or two about camping! We were able to choose our own pitch on the site. Everything was quiet and comfortable, just like the whole stay. We wanted to go on a few bike tours from there and wanted to include our son, who lives nearby, who arrived by train and wanted us to pick up his bike. No problem for the campsite operator. We didn't have to pay extra for his presence. The sanitary facilities were certainly not luxurious, but they were definitely fit for purpose and always very clean. The fact that there were no coin-operated showers was particularly positive. My main criticism of campsites is always these unfortunate coin-operated showers, which never save anything but drive campers away. Here you could theoretically shower until the heater gave up the ghost. But who does that? No responsible camper! Certainly not! Big plus point! We weren't able to test the bathing lake yet, but the site is conveniently located on the Saaleradweg cycle path and therefore absolutely ideal for Jena and Naumburg. The snack bar in front of the campsite was very busy. Of course, it is also ideally located. The peace and quiet on the site was particularly nice. There are certainly still some construction sites around the campsite that could be fixed, but that should not be part of this rating. All in all, we had a fantastic weekend and will definitely be back again. Many thanks for that!

A good thing to do
A beautifully situated site with friendly staff and lots of idyllic peace and quiet. The sanitary facilities were not quite up to our standard, but are sufficiently clean. The site is just right as a base from which to explore the surrounding area. We stayed there for two days and will definitely be back again.
