The municipal campsite is located in a small side valley leading away from Tende - very quiet by a stream. It is a 10-minute walk to the center of Tende. Tende is a small village with a supermarket, bars and restaurants/pizzerias. In the village there is the free Musee des Merveilles (it shows prehistoric... rock paintings that were discovered in the area at an altitude of approx. 2000 m). The campsite is mainly frequented by French people who hike in the area; the site is also a good starting point for enduro riders who ride their motorcycles along the border ridge paths between I and F. The front part of the site is a paved area for caravans and motorhomes; at the back there is a dry meadow with a dusty gravel path through it for tents. The site is managed by a retired couple who keep a close eye on what's happening on the site - no need for security. We would have liked to stay longer, but we were only given permission for 2 nights - what a shame! The sanitary facilities are of the lowest standard, but clean. You shower when you have to ... However: very good value for money. Great campsite for a stopover on the way south - although the area is also really worthwhile for hiking.
