Give Yourself All the Time You Need

Nudists don’t tend to hesitate: As soon as they arrive at the campsite, they kick off their jeans and won’t put their t-shirts on again until just before departure. Those new to naturism might find this a bit daunting, though, and may prefer to stay clothed at the beginning. The most important thing is to set your own pace and do what makes you comfortable. There’s no rush: If this is your first time being naked in public, it’s okay to take it slow and test the waters before diving right in. Instead of booking a two-week holiday at a nudist resort where nakedness is a requirement, you may want to consider going on a weekend trip to a campsite near a nude beach. That way, you can see how you feel being naked at the beach, but you won’t need to dine out or go shopping without your trousers.

Accept Your Body

It may sound like a cliché, but “accept your body” can be a powerful mantra when camping naked. You probably won’t come across people that look like Jennifer Aniston or Hugh Jackman. (As nice as that might be, it’s not very realistic.) Feeling a little ashamed or embarrassed at the beginning is totally normal. Every newcomer goes through this phase. As you spend more and more time with other nudists, though, you’ll feel more comfortable in your own skin. You’ll eventually forget about places that you used to consider “problem areas” and be able to laugh off normal bodily reactions beyond your control!

Behave Respectfully and Tactfully

Mutual respect is a top priority among nudists. To make sure everyone feels comfortable, you shouldn’t stare at or laugh about others’ bodies. This mutual respect is essential for a relaxing nudist holiday. You should also leave your camera in your motorhome. That way, neither you nor your fellow campers wind up in an awkward situation because they unintentionally appear in your holiday photos. Many nudists are understandably sensitive about being photographed.

Don't Forget Your Towel

Whether you’re at the beach or on a lawn, you should always have a towel on hand. Not only will it help keep you from getting sand in uncomfortable places, but it also ensures that the chairs and sun loungers that you use remain clean and hygienic for the next person. Also, make sure to pay attention to your position: Since you’re not wearing any clothing, having your legs spread apart is now taboo, because that could bother other campers.

Protect Yourself from the Sun

When you’re heading to warmer climates, everyone knows you should pack sunscreen. Naturists need to be especially careful when soaking up the sun, though! Some parts of your body have rarely (if ever!) seen the bright light of day, so when you expose them to UV rays, they will be particularly prone to sunburn. So slather on the high-SPF sunscreen before sunning yourself to prevent any unpleasant surprises!

Go Ahead and Take Your Kids Along with You

Many parents shy away from the idea of bringing their kids with them on a naturist holiday. There’s no reason not to take them along, though. Children often treat nakedness as natural and, unlike many adults, a completely normal thing. They may ask you some awkward questions, but that’s just because these little travellers are curious. It’s a different story with teenagers and young adults, though: Feelings of shame and embarrassment are particularly prominent during puberty, so definitely talk to your teens beforehand and find out if they would consider a nudist holiday rather than surprising them with the naked truth of your finalised plans.

Don’t Confuse Naturism with Eroticism

Novice nudists frequently equate naturism with eroticism. Yes, you will be surrounded by naked people, and you might not be able to shut off your imagination immediately. Freedom, relaxation and naturalness are all a part of the concept, but freedom doesn’t mean publicly indulging in sexual acts and displays of affection. Doing so could disturb others’ sense of freedom and relaxation. If being out in the sun has you feeling hot and bothered, just head back into your motorhome.

Enjoy Your Holiday

This is probably the most important point on this list: Enjoy being able to move around freely, and have a great holiday. After a short adjustment period, you’ll notice that even a holiday in the nude can be quite carefree. Use the time to relax, enjoy the warmth of the sun and feel the breeze on your skin.
