A Regime of Control in Hippie Garb
For my 46th birthday, we had planned a small party with 10–12 people. We were aware that only groups of up to six people are allowed at ElbeCamp. However, with five overnight guests and the party down on the beach, this shouldn’t have been a problem.

Because of the minimum booking period of two nights—even... though we’d only planned to stay one night—the bill came to about €150, which was quite steep. We weren’t given even a small discount.

The reception from the groundskeeper was already very unfriendly. Prohibitory and informational signs dominate the entire grounds. Unpleasant—even the rainbow-colored signs don’t help.

We deliberately held our celebration a few hundred meters away on the public beach—without loud music, with children, and being considerate of the campground guests.
Around 10 p.m., an ElbeCamp employee showed up and informed us that the police had already been called because of our small campfire.
Furthermore, the unkempt-looking employee, who claimed to be a “project manager” for the camp, stated that two unregistered people had used the campground’s restrooms and that a “discussion” about this incident would take place the next day.
We put out the fire immediately.
However, the atmosphere became so unpleasant afterward that we broke camp that very night and left. The police (unfortunately) did not show up, and it turned out to be a bluff.

Similar experiences can also be found in other reviews. Among other things, these reports mention that even two groups—who had only just met at the campground—were expelled from the site because, together, they consisted of more than six people.

On the surface, ElbeCamp appears open and alternative. In reality, however, we experienced a very strict, unwelcoming, and at times even uncomfortably cult-like atmosphere.

For 41 euros a night for two people and a tent, there aren't many amenities. And the manager wasn't very customer-friendly.
Unfriendly to customers and very strict rules
We had sent an email asking if we could stay at this campground for 3 days, and the response was a binding booking confirmation (a little weird!!)
Anyway, it looked nice, so we went ahead and booked and paid for 3 days right away.

When we checked in, we were told we weren’t allowed to bring our gear... to the site by car, but the campsite seemed close by, so we figured it would be manageable. Then it turned out our campsite was 400 meters from the parking lot......
That seemed a bit too far to drag our heavy tent, so we quickly parked the car a little further down the road (along the side of the road) to unload. That’s when we saw a sign there: “No loading or unloading.” There was another car there, so we went ahead and did it quickly anyway. But then the owner showed up. He got angrier and angrier (we played dumb) and told us to leave and that we could get our money back. It started to rain, so we quickly moved the car to the (official) parking lot and hauled the last of our gear 500 meters across the road and through the loose sand.

Once the tent was up, we went exploring. We came across signs everywhere about what was and wasn’t allowed. And the restrooms were very cramped; there was only one water tap, no electricity, no store, and no supermarket near the campground either. So you had to buy everything you needed at their restaurant.
In the evening, it was a fun atmosphere (soccer game), but when I ran into the campground manager and greeted him, he turned his face away. We left the next day. We did apologize, because taking advantage of people is obviously not okay. We didn’t get a refund. The lady at the front desk was nice, though.

In short, a customer-unfriendly campground; you don’t get your money’s worth. It’s strange that you’re not allowed to drive your car a little closer to drop off and pick up your belongings, and that they don’t even provide handcarts. They did have sleds, but try pulling a fully loaded sled through the loose sand....DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED!

We stayed at the campground for 3 nights with our dogs and really enjoyed our stay. The location is a huge plus—beautifully situated, surrounded by nature, and ideal for relaxing walks, even with our dogs. The atmosphere at the campground is pleasant, and you immediately feel at home. Dogs are also welcome everywhere, as long as they’re on a leash. We’d especially like to highlight the restroom facilities: The toilets and showers were really very clean, well-maintained, and tidy. That was a pleasant surprise and is a major plus at a campground.

Because of the nature of the campground, there’s sand everywhere—in the trailer, in the awning, and, of course, it’s impossible to completely avoid getting it on your shoes. But that’s completely normal for a sandy campground and is simply part of the charm of this beautiful place, so it’s not a downside 😁

Our verdict: We had a great time, felt very comfortable, and would definitely recommend this campground. The beautiful location, the cleanliness of the restrooms, and the dog-friendly atmosphere are definite pluses for us. We’d love to come back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great for kids
We were there in a large group with lots of children aged between 3 and 6. It was great fun for the kids from the first to the last second. The playground is very large and there is lots of different play equipment. A great experience is the direct beach location, so that young and old can watch the... big ships passing right in front of you.
The campsite also has a very good restaurant serving breakfast and other dishes for lunch and dinner.
The sanitary facilities are cleaned regularly, but at peak times there are a little too few sanitary facilities for such a large site.
All in all, a very nice site with a top location in Hamburg directly on the Elbe.
Many Hamburgers also appreciate the Elbecamp as day guests.
All in all, highly recommended.

Location next to Elbe-river and it's sand beach was nice. There were trees and bushes growing in the sandy camping area, which comfortably divided the area into sections. I liked a bit bohemic athmosphere here. Forest next to the camping area was beautiful. You can buy food & drinks from the restaurant at the camping area.

Area was a bit restless during the day, because there was a lot of otsiders (or so I believe) at the restaurant, playground and beach. There was also a youth-camp right next to the tent-area, so it wasn't the most peacuful place. In the evening it was ok, when there were less people. Toilets were clean but quite cramped, not the most comfortable to use if you value privacy. You have to park your car quite far from the tents, even though there is a place nearer where you can unload your stuff before driving to the parking lot.

We were on site for 5 days. We were informed in advance by e-mail that during the storm surge times the WW can only be parked in the rear area of the mobile homes. What we hadn't considered was the lack of a water connection at the pitch. The sanitary facilities are clean but a bit dated. If you don't... have a problem with spiders on the ceilings, they are perfectly usable. As the windows in the showers were permanently open, the length of stay is rather short despite the heating for hot showers. There is of course plenty of sand both in the showers and on the whole site, but this is unavoidable due to the beach location. There is hot water in the showers and at the rinsing stations, but the hot water temperature fluctuates during use (we were always alone in the showers). Unfortunately there is no hot water at the washbasins in the shower room. It is a pity that the gastronomy on the site will be completely discontinued from mid-October except for the bread roll service. I think the overnight price should also be different here. The transport links by bike via the cycle path to Hamburg, as well as by bus to the square (stop 100m, ElbeCamp, line 388 from / to Rissen S-Bahn) which runs every hour is good. The satellite reception is rather difficult due to many trees. W-lan unfortunately only available outside, usually not in the WW.
The place is recommended for a short stay until the end of October. In summer, due to the direct location, certainly also for a longer stay. There is also a small playground on the site.

Conclusion: Highly recommended for city breaks. Especially when container ships and passenger ships pass directly in front of the WW, a great spectacle for landlubbers!

Beautiful alternative campsite right on the beach. Hamburg's sights are easy to reach by bike. Friendly staff.

The campsite (at least our area) was one big sandpit. The caravan was pulled into the deep sand with a tractor. Sounds great at first, but it gets annoying as the sand is dragged everywhere. Before you enter the caravan, you first have to sit at the door and wipe the sand off your feet. The sanitary facilities look like this because of the sand that has been dragged in. The sanitary facilities are small and the showers are cramped.

An interesting campsite. Ideal for children. Suitable for couples for the great location just outside Hamburg.
Would be nice if there were "footpaths" that were cleared of sand, then the sanitary facilities wouldn't be so dirty.

Nice people, super nice non-parceled site, the view, the super gastronomy. Pure beach feeling. The atmosphere is relaxed and very friendly. Everything is clean and tidy, even without coronavirus. We love coming here to relax at any time.

At night temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees, the washrooms were not heated and all the windows and doors were open. Unfortunately, there was no hot water either. This is not appropriate for the price of just under 35 euros. You can't always just want to earn money but also do something for it.

...but the staff is possibly the most inflexible I have ever experienced.
First things first: the place is pretty great! Even a campfire is allowed in front of the camp and it's not far to the beach. The site is not exactly cheap, but it's ok. When you check in, you're offered free showers. Unfortunately,... they are only so-so, more like an alternating bath. no constant temperature. But that's not really important.
It's nobody's fault that the server fails on the day of departure, not even the cool guys at reception, one of whom spends 12 minutes on the phone with someone who apparently wants a permanent campsite that doesn't exist. 300 people already on the waiting list. That could go quickly, could. As I said, it's nobody's fault if the server breaks down. I just want to check out. A resourceful member of staff goes to the restaurant next door and asks for the 10 euros I left as a deposit or pulls out my wallet. However, I am told that I have to be patient until the problem is fixed. He can't help me like this. Is that still possible?

It's always great fun at the Elbecamp. We will definitely be going back next year. Super clean sanitary facilities (the cleaners do a great job) although the site was used a lot. It was relatively full on the site, but that speaks for itself. Nevertheless, you could relax well. The noise level was also... absolutely okay despite the many children on the pitch. I just think this is a great, great place to camp and can only warmly recommend it. We will definitely be back next year!

Beautiful natural campsite, but.
The price-performance ratio is very poor! The campsite has a great location on the Elbe with a sandy beach, but you have to dig deep into your pockets. We had to pay just under €72 for 2 nights (2 adults, 1 large camper van). There is WLAN, but it doesn't cover the whole site, which is why it can't be... booked according to the staff. The snack bar is plentiful, but very, very overpriced. However, the food was quite good. About the pitch: Gray water disposal is not possible. Black water disposal is. Fresh water can be filled up. The site could look a bit better maintained. On the plus side, use of the bathroom and toilet is free and the sanitary facilities were clean. Would we recommend the site? Yes, at least if you are looking for something in the countryside near the water in Hamburg.

We were there with our tent for 3 days over Whitsun. Regulations such as observing quiet times or keeping a distance from other tents are not adhered to. The sanitary facilities are cleaned several times a day and the snacks on offer are decent.

As has often been mentioned, the campsite is beautifully situated and is a gem due to its location. The operator(s) of the site are present and generally hospitable. Many of the staff seem to be unskilled and if you expect normal, standardized guest contact, you need to be flexible. All in all, however,... the interaction is pleasant and guests' problems are taken care of. At the time of our stay there was unfortunately a techno party going on near the campsite which we couldn't avoid. Around 9 o'clock the next morning it was over and we could finally sleep. This is not the campsite's fault, but you have to be prepared for the fact that there are apparently external events taking place nearby which can increase the noise level even further under certain circumstances. We left the campsite with a very unsatisfactory feeling, as we unfortunately had neighbors who did not adhere to the campsite rules. On departure, I was advised to choose a campsite that is not particularly suitable for young people and children next time, but one that is a little quieter. In my opinion, however, the campsite rules should still be adhered to by the guests, otherwise you could save yourself the trouble. Also, it wasn't children and teenagers who were standing in front of the tents at 3:30 in the morning bawling loudly, but adult men. I also find the increased drug consumption on the site, which is not regulated, problematic. At least I couldn't see anyone taking care of it, as even in the front area near the restaurant with lots of staff nearby, marijuana smoke was often noticeable. So I assume that this is tolerated on this campsite. I find the profiling as a children's and youth campsite in combination with consistently high alcohol and additional drug consumption difficult. If you have fewer problems and take a more sporting approach, you can really gain added value on this campsite. Our experiences are just a snapshot and it can be completely different on other days at this campsite. Basically, the campsite is definitely recommended if you can come to terms with certain things.

At Whitsun, when the weather is at its best and the site is at full capacity, it reaches its limits. Very popular with families with children, who play in the mud of the Elbe and the sand that is everywhere and then often try to get rid of their 'breadcrumbs' in the washrooms without their parents' company,... unfortunately leaving the washhouse in a very dirty state. The location on the Elbe and the proximity to the city are great. If you like endless sand, this is the place for you. We also found the clientele that loves this resort, a mixture of Waldorf students and late sixty-somethings, special.
